General Ideas and Suggestions

This could be a thread to test ideas for new threads. Test the group, see if there is enough interest to follow up a concept.

eg:

Guys, how many of us are building our own machines? Would an Aussie Builders thread be useful?

I'm busy building my own, the hassle with getting stuff locally has me thinking I should start importing/manufacturing stuff and set up a little business don't know if the cafe scene here has the demand for it though especially with Deus in Sydney as well any thoughts on that?

Might be worth setting up a thread with links to the full build thread, I'm always interested in what local guys are doing and where they get their stuff from :)

Cheers
Steve

Mostly self-manufactured here, too. Small town, can't be assed spending much or going places either.

I reckon an Aussie Build thread would be cool. Small cliackable url with theme, base model & location. Using mine as an example:

Boingks 'Apocalyptic' GS850 (NSW)

Get a list on the front page of the thread with those, updated as needed.

Cheers - boingk

PS: If there are enough of us in one area we should see about organising a group ride sometime, hey?

Yep. I'm in.

As for the import - local distributor and Aust manufacture thing, probably has some potential. Once a momentum starts it should 'go'.
I'd be interested.

on topic, the introduce yourself thread wsa kindof supposed to cover most of this, i can do a menu in the first post as per Boingk's suggestion if that would be the best solution?
off topic, it seems everyones dream is to open up a shop, haha. It is possible to run successful businesses in specialist (emerging trend) areas like this, i've seen it in the fixed gear bike "scene".
like alot of the american guys, i have a background in industrial design, so it's easy to create some cad drawings for local small batch production or some concept sketches for bikes. the business end would scare the shit out of me however. maybe one day. seriously though, i get the feeling the modified/classic/cafe bike concept is gathering speed, and now would be the time to start something in melbourne if someone had the wherewithal and desire.

Any one else have an opinion on this? Response seems to be a bit slow. C'mon guys and girls, how many builders out there are there?

I am (very slowly) builing a GSX250 and a thread like this would be cool.

Cheers
Rob

I'm building an SR500 and have a build thread on the SR forum ( http://www.sr500forum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=15&t=1283 ) so i don't think it'd be worth me "spamming" all the forums with the same stuff HOWEVER i do think it'd be extremely helpful and beneficial for everyone to get it all in one place. That way we can all easily ask "where did that come from" "who did that for you" and "i like what you did there, can i bring round my bike and a carton of beer and you help me do that?"

I made a start on an aussie build thread seeing as the consensus seemed to be to have one, its scope is very broad at the moment, but it covers any bikes built by owners that provide more info then a basic introduction. across a number of forums. let me now if i've missed anything.
