My starter has been dead forever pretty much and I use the kick starter. Now I just have a starter on the front of my engine that is useless. Is there any good way of just getting rid of it? What would plug the hole? I was thinking of using a freeze plug there as my buddy suggested to me. Any thoughts?
I also don't care to rebuild it as I've been running kick only for two years and I have no switches up front anyway.
ya, toss it and plug the hole! all the cool kids are doing it! depending on the bike the odds are great that it's only in an oil 'splash' zone... there won't be standing oil trying to seep through so you just need something oil tight, not pressure tight... there are people on the site who have machined some damn cool plugs... maybe do a search on starter hole plug and see if you get any hits!
Crazy PJ makes nice billet starter blockoffs for the 350/360 on the cheap. Not sure if they would work on your scoot. If not, Ive used engine expansion plugs from Auto Zone. Not the prettiest, but they work.
Ya know Pawn, I've thought about using the starter housing as a tool tray or something. Once you pull the actual motor parts from the inside (which is what all the weight is) all you would need to do is block the hole the drive shaft goes through. Then just carry a screw driver (or allen wrench if you swap out the bolts) to get to any other tools inside.
It may get too hot for plastic handled screw drivers though......
