GL 1000 sport wing No Time, No Dime

You know I dig it !!!! just wish my lil 450 could keep up with it ;) Can't wait to ride together again, smoking tires!!!!

Man, that's cool Troy!! One of the best looking 'Wings out there IMO!! 8)

NIce job Troy... you're gonna love her! I remember your desire of one way back when I did mine. Took her out this week for a ride and she still put's a grin on my face ear to ear! Rollin onto the Ton is so damn easy to get carried away.
And yep, you get the strangest looks at the stops.
The "Teddy Bear Crowd" is in awe. "That's a GOLDWING?!" I just reply "Yeah, It's a Naked Goldwing!

I can't WAIT to ride behind this old girl in a month or so. Gonna be great! She's a beaut brother!

wow , well done , I've been away from the forum for quite a few years now but I'm glad to see your still knocking out some great builds , I'll have to keep my eyes peeled hopefully i can get a glimpse of this beauty in person

She is a gorgeous machine, dude. The seat/cowl really is the cherry on top. outstanding.

Really appreciate the kind words fellas.

Joon-yah, you better drop everything and head to Kentucky in a few weeks! that's all I gotta say on that ;)

Chris. Well, The BeamWalker will be one of the ones to see her in a few weeks. Can't wait for that. (That is, to witness first hand, the Beamwalking I keep hearing about :)

Thank you Drewski!

You're correct Hoosier, I was totally inspired by your build! I couldn't wait to get my hands on one and now I'm on my second. Too bad I could've been mistaken for the Teddy bear crowd with the First one though. Glad I gave that up :)
This one I rode about 2,500 last year during different stages of build. And I know exactly what you mean when you say it's easy to get carried away when your rolling on the throttle :) One of the reasons I keep pushing the upgrades in suspension and handling:)

Kiley I know how you build. Have a feeling I'll be lucky to see your tail light!

downtown809 I appreciate the kind words!

Thanks ScrewedandTattooed. I'm the same way. I stop in when I can, try to catch up but of course completely catching up is impossible. Never enough time to read enough, let alone post anything. Just happy I still remember the password and I've not been locked out yet ;) Are you still in the Morgantown/Fairmont area?

Thanks Trek! You making the thaw? How's that Honda holding up?

Thank you John83!

Thanks Richard. So nice to get support from you fellas. I'm really anxious to see everyone at the thaw.

About the only update is I've got a new back tire on order. Still need to change all the fluids before the trip in a few weeks and finish up the shocks. Might be making a trip to DEK in Pittsburgh to change the fluid in those since i can't recharge em. Also might drop off a rear rotor to be drilled (have I told you how much I love you Doug?).

Anyhow, I can't wait to see how she handles with the new tire. Going to a radius more geared toward cornering and has a much lower sidewall which should improve corner handling (should be way more responsive and less mushy). Going from a 130-90-17 to a 130-70-17. Plan is to retain the current ride height with longer shocks. The tire I'm running now is pretty much flat like a car tire. I've hated it since I put it on.
A very helpful calculator to bookmark:

Let's just not do the shocks and rotor the night before we leave. Of course why deviate from the norm...lol. Love ya right back brother.

Btw, the wing looks great =)

So you dont think we should stay up all night the night before we leave on a huge trip re-wiring a bike, Building two seats, replacing timing belts and a whole slew of other stuff? lol Ok, I agree!

Pretty stoked to ride this bike in a couple days. Shocks are coming together and tire arrived today. Check out the difference in these two tires. They measure the same width btw:

Made two sleeves for the shock eyes

Once I get the tire mounted and the shocks installed I'll post up a couple pics.
I know you all will appreciate this. Something happened today that was pretty cool and I'm sure several of you have dealt with before. Took the bike to a local shop for state inspection. The entire shop stopped what they were doing and were standing around checking her out. Pretty cool, but then one of their customers came up to me and said it's a beautiful bike, I have a bike too, but it's a lot older. So I asked how old and he said a '94. Lol I didn't say a word. Didn't have the heart to tell him.

Nice work Troy. Hope to see her in person and you soon, may not be till Barber sadly but we'll see. I get the same thing when people ask what year the bike is and I tell them 79.

Yes see you in about a week Trek!

Thanks Maritime. Pretty bummed you can't make it but I totally understand.

Thank you Cafe-XV750. These old wings really are a breed all their own. Something I didn't fully understand until I had one sitting in the garage and grease up to my elbows. I mean that in a good way. I highly recommend one

Update:

Tire and shocks mounted= mind blown. The ride difference between the Fox shocks and the Emgo's can't be compared. The bike is so much better balanced suspension wise, front to back. I can't believe how much difference there is these in two shocks. The Emgos were ether super spungy or super stiff (and very little damping). Not much in between. What's even more surprising is I thought the fox shocks couldn't be improved. Wrong. Had the springs off and compressed the shocks. Felt pretty good to me. They had a nice amount of compression and seemed to rebound well. Rode them for about a week that way and was grinning ear to ear the entire time. Well, after having Doug at DEK Performance service the shocks my mind was blown completely again! Never in a million years would I have guessed they would improve as much as they did. But they did.

Just back from a ride a few days ago (this was taken before touching up the paint on the rear rim. It took a pretty good beating mounting the new tire)

Changed all the fluids and decided to wrinkle coat that super shiny timing belt cover. Looks so much better IMO:

Wired in an accessory plug, added GPS
Headed to Pittsburgh to see my buddy Doug so he could work his magic:

The man working more of his Voo-Doo Majik

At about 1:30am last night freezing my ass off. I was the guy standing in front of that all night McDonalds, both hands grasping a cup of hot oil they sold as coffee, with a shit eating grin on his face, Bug eyed stare, Dumb & Dumber snot sickle and his mind blown. would have never in a million years believed that the suspension would improve. Doug Yer the man!
