First thing I have 4 wires coming from start button/ stop switch that go to the harness.
When I turn the key to on the black wire is hot with a test light but it doesn't go into the harness.
Does it light up because it is completing the circuit?
The other black wires go to ground so should I also send the black from the switch to a ground?
BTW nothing is working past the switch at this point in time.
Thanks Will
Yes sir, pretty much.
It don't look like there was ever a wire in the connector but I hooked one up anyway because of the diagram.
It didn't make a difference.
I get juice to the fuses and starter relay and when I jump the relay the motor spins.
I'm not getting juice to the plug wires though.
I'm not getting juice to any lights either but I'm missing a headlight relay.
I might have a bad relay somewhere?
The wiring on these models is a bit messy. If you're missing a relay, that can be a problem. you can bypass it, but you're almost looking at a new harness at that point. A lot of the components are interconnected and if you remove one (such as the headlight relay), you're looking at removing two or three others.
Follow the power wires back from the coils to check for power. That might be a good start.
Okay the 4 wires that go to the coils are all hot when the key is on. Here's a couple of pics. I think they are calling them a pickup coil and a ignitor. Is there a way to test these? I tried cleaning up the pickup coils.
You can test the wires going into the ignitor, but the rest is a black box. Using a multimeter, you should be able to get a couple of AC blips testing between the orange and brown and the green and brown on the four pin plug.
