Hi, I'm Grutefruh, from France.
A few weeks ago, I did buy this 1980 CB650 that will become the most beatifull Bratstyle bike in the world...in my country....ok, in my village!!!

The bike is in good condition. I have no time or money to waste so project will probably go slowly.
I hope that you will help me if I have questions.
There are a lot of marvelous bikes on this forum, I want to make something nice too.

Now some picture:

That what I would like to do

The bike is realy clean. The last owner did buy it 5 years ago without never touch it.
He let it outside under a cover during 5 years and now it has no rust exepting some screws.

Carbs look clean, so I did just open them, inside it's very clean, so I close without dismontling them

HI, I'm back
I do no have a lot of time to spend on the bike, but I did just finish to paint the wheels in Mat Black.
I'm happy with the finish.
Now I've to change the tires, and I realy don't know witch model I can put on It.
Original tires are 3.75x18 and 3.25x19.
I would like to put a bigger tire at the front, but does it pass through the fork? 3.5x19 for example?
Wo did some changes (with original fork)
3.5x18 is similar to 110x80x18 and 100x90x18 but those are normaly front tire size, can I put a front tire at the front?
Thank you for answering...
I will soon work on the seat. I want the bike to be ridable for this summer.

The bike looks horrible like that !!!

Bye

Hi all,

Wheels are back on the bike !!! I'm realy happy, it looks great (for me). But now, I understand why a lot of guy did bend the back loop to the top.
The distance between frame and tire is very short. What should I do? Make the loop longer? Bend it with 10°? Let it like that? Here is the fender still missing but should come to support the light, so give me please your point of view...

I prefer the rear loops that are bent up at the back, personally. As for length, you're kind of in between right now. It seems too short to allow for a passenger (if you plan on keeping that possibility), but the flat seat seems too long for a solo. Again, just my opinion.

If you plan on going with a straight Bratstyle and riding one up, I would think you would want to shorten the sear to the middle of the rear tire. That is more if a preference/design question than anything else though. If you keep it long enough to ride two up, there is always the possibility of making a fiberglass removable rear cowl.

Also, if like Ryan, you prefer an upswept loop, it isn't too late to do it yourself with a torch. Keep up the great work on your build.

Thank you guy's for your answers.
I've spoken with a friend wo will help me.
He's got a tube bend machine.
So we will bend 10 or 15° to the top AND make it a bit longer (5 to 10 cm).
I think that this will fit well. I want to keep the possibility to take somebody behind me.

Hi,
Here are some new pics from my project.
The loop has been bent 15° to the top, and it is also abit longer. Now the distance with the tire looks better.
I found an old skate board, the tail is exactly 15°... Perfect.
I removed the paint on the tank, it should be painted soon.
I have changed the handlebar and the grips
Now, I still need to weld some parts to fix the seat and the back light.
The seat in under progress...
Here are the pictures...

the tire will hit it the seat bottom up near and before full suspension travel
unless you mount it up more

You really hate lowered bikes huh? The brat style is all about low and firm suspension...assuming he's going to put some firm suspension on there.

I do understand that you're right from a practical sense and personally it's not something I'd do, but its the same as the guys that lower their cars; some prefer looks over practicality.

if i see an unsafe, poorly conceived design i will draw attention to it
i think that many that do these things do not realize how badly it affects the machine, maybe some actually care ?

thank you for your warnings.
I know the problem. Actually I haven't try the bike with this back loop.
I tried to push the suspensions to the maximum, and the tire didn't touch.
Nothing will come under the loop, no fender, a steel part will be welded at theback of the loop to support the light and licence plate. Hope everything will work well, if no, I will find a solution.
;)
