GS ugly engine knock - Video

Hello everyone,

Got an ugly "engine knock" problem with my 81 GS450 maybe you guys can help with

Had this gs450 for about a year now, had it running last summer for a couple good rides, rode nicely for her age with 12K mileage. Over the winter, worked on some small projects, but mainly cleaned and reassembled the carbs. Once the nice weather was back around, I was eager to get her back on the rode again. Come the first ride of the season with some buds, I was noticing an annoying tick coming from what seemed to be the engine. Now I am here to see if you guys can help me maybe narrow the search down a bit :-\

I can't get the video to play on my end but is the sound more of a high speed tick? These bikes can get "cam end float", sounds scary but it doesn't hurt the bike any. It usually happens when the bike is cold and is a fast/rythmic tapping sound, as it warms up it skips a few beats and eventually goes away when the engine is hot.

Carbs that are out of sync can cause funky tapping sounds too though.

Have you checked the valve shims?

Just hope its not piston slap
