Bare with me, im new to this forum

So I found a gs450 for sale for $100. I know very little about these bikes. However, I just completed a xs650 bobber project and from what I can tell, they look similiar as far as how they run.

Do these bikes have much power? As it is just a 450....

I believe its the gs450L model from the looks of the tank. Correct? Are the tanks interchangable between versions? (L, S, etc) Besides the tank shape, what makes these bikes different between models?

Im kinda nervous to get into this project as its all torn up now and i cant tell if it runs or not...

Any advice?

Lots of useable power for a 450cc. Top speed over 100mph. 6 speed trans. Somebody really got into that one though, who knows without doing some investigating. Can be built to be a great track bike with nearly bolt on parts from other gs series models.

Check out Big Rich's thread. He's done quite a bit with his 450. There also should be a GS thread on here with a decent amount of info.

And the tanks will swap if you fab a new rear mount. The L tanks are shorter and have a different mount than the S tanks with the knee dents.

http://www.thegsresources.com/ has a ton of info on these bikes. I just picked one up last month (1980 GS450 L) that needs some work, but I took it on a few short rides and it's pretty fun.
