I looked for the holy grail of cafe platforms (cb750) and but ended up with a grampa Harley wannabe '82 GS550L :-\
But I saw past horrible tank, painfully uncomfortable bars, full coverage rear fender, "bumper" like tail light......... yadda yadda yadda
This is actually my first bike and therefore my first bike project.
So here I am with my first post, a pretty good array of pics start to present (never finished).
I made the:
clip ons- all d.o.m. steel tubing, clamps included
Seat- seat pan to upholstery, fully removable utilizing part of the original mounts
Rear sets- got some pegs and controls from a used bike parts place (Cyclepsycho in Eugene, OR). I think they came off some kind of Kawasaki. Made the brackets
Exhaust- I utilized most of the stock system and bought some off the shelf bends. The muffler is a Competition Werkes Slip-On GP www.competitionwerkes.com, I know the owner and most of the employees (freebie!!!!) It actually came third-hand from my friend Buddy
Rear Shocks- Came off an '84 cb750 night hawk I think. They are pretty cool though, they have 4-position dampening adjustment in addition to preload adjust. (from $15 cyclepsycho!) They were several inches longer than stock, so I made new upper mounts. Still raised the back end a couple inches which gave me room for my plate (license plate bracket also from competition werkes)
Fuel Tank- from a '72 cb750, I said I wanted a cb750 didn't I Well it just so happened that a friend of mine had an old one sitting around that wasn't going to run anytime soon so I donated the tank. Thanks again Buddy
Tail Light- This is my pride and joy! It's 3/4" plexi divided and fully encapsulated in aluminum sheet (except the tail end of course) then I drilled and glued in the brightest LEDs I could buy. It has my turn signals built into it also.
And I painted the wheels and forks black.
Well.... It's far from done.
I have a set of Seca II wheels I will probably put on it.
Still need to make side covers, the shop manager at Comp. Werkes said he could punch out some stainless tins for me.
I'm gonna paint the exhaust black and wrap it w/ header wrap.
I need to paint the headlight bucket and brackets black (I hate chrome).
Paint the tank. Hmmm.......what color....??? probably black ;D
I'll post detail pics later. I just had to post what I have now, I kept putting it off.
