GT750 Phat Trakka - new video revised exhaust

Re: GT750 Phat Trakka - Almost ready to rock

Side cover is off, clutch lifter mechanism is out and seals are on order. I found a small amount of crap inside the gear shaft, but nothing to worry about.

All shaft surfaces where seals ruin have been cleaned up ready for those new seals.

Re: GT750 Phat Trakka - Almost ready to rock

The seals arrived today, so the clutch mechanism is all back together and the trans oil has been replaced and leveled. I also managed to get a couple of packs of muffler wrap, so I re-wrapped the stock baffles ready for dyno testing.

Now I need to get some bedding in miles in and get the jetting into the ball park before next weekend when I want to ride it.

Re: GT750 Phat Trakka - Almost ready to rock

Hey Teazer, just a little trick I learned to dry out fuel tanks. If you hold it up to the tailpipe of your car and let the exhaust blow through it for a couple of minutes it'll be almost completely dry with hardly a scent of gas vapor. It probably has something to do with the cat on the car. Give it a shot next time. - Stout

Re: GT750 Phat Trakka - Almost ready to rock

BTW the Phat Trakka looks killer! -stout

Re: GT750 Phat Trakka - Almost ready to rock

Thanks Stout. You haven't seen the smoke that comes out of my car... LOL.

I'll keep that trick in mind. I used a hair dryer and as long as I don't get caught, it never happened. Right?

I almost forgot to install a magnet for the speedo. I dug that out and will have to JB weld it into a disk button. I have to say that I'm not crazy about that idea, but haven't worked out any other way that's any safer.

Re: GT750 Phat Trakka - Almost ready to rock

This is what I stared with. The one on the right.

Parts of it ended up in the bike in my avatar, but I had some parts left over - like swingarm and wheels and some engine bits - all I needed was a frame...

So I picked up this frame and tank and used the seat I bought for the other project and this was the new starting point

By the time I rebuilt the front wheel

And the back wheel

Got a few parts re zinc plated after they were cleaned by hand and wire brushed

Cleaned up the electrics and oil tank

The main switch was relocated to a new panel under the tank where it's almost invisible and the relays and fuse panel were re-located there too.

Points were replaced with a custom DYNA S made up of 1 and 1/2 sets of S modules on a modified GT750 points plate.

And of course it needed some trick LED lights
Now with music

It ended up looking a little cleaner and lighter I think.

And no prizes for working out how it was held upright while I took that picture.

Re: GT750 Phat Trakka - Almost ready to rock

Teazer, I am absolutely amazed by this bike. Congrats sir. Have you had the chance to bed everything in yet?

Re: GT750 Phat Trakka - Almost ready to rock

Next Video is a riding video right? Well done sir. I like it!

I take it you don't want to replace on of the rotor bolts with one that already has the magnet attached? Maybe that doesn't line up with your speedo pickup.... Otherwise, you can get them from Acewell, or if you let me know the threads and length I might just have one lying around I could send you.

Re: GT750 Phat Trakka - Almost ready to rock

Stout, I have a magnet in a bolt and a small magnet so that's not the issue. The disks are dished so I can't just replace a rotor bolt and there's not enough metal in the carrier to drill into that, so it has to go into a "button". RaceTech suggest JB weld and I guess that the buttons can't get very hot or else they would fail.

What I decided to do is to use teh 6mm button magnet bolt and I put a flanged aluminum nut on the inside facing the "wrong" way. That way it cannot come out and jam the brakes if it does come loose. It could theoretically travel inwards and hit the rim, but that's not a problem. This will work. I think. Thanks for the input.

Re: GT750 Phat Trakka - Almost ready to rock

Thanks guys, Not a lot of miles on it yet. I like the flyby idea.

Re: GT750 Phat Trakka - Almost ready to rock

Absolutely supernice bike!
Btw., glueing the magneto into one of the floaters is perfectly safe!
Don't you worry!
But if you want to I can turn you a special floater, blind hole with
retaining ring so the magneto is mechanically fixed!

Best regards
Sven

Re: GT750 Phat Trakka - Almost ready to rock

Thanks Sven,
I'll try JB weld and it that doesn't work I'll go that way.

Re: GT750 Phat Trakka - Almost ready to rock

Man... I haven't checked in here in a while. So raaad Teazer! Damn....

Re: GT750 Phat Trakka - Almost ready to rock

Thanks Louie,

The button magnet is now glued in with JB Weld. I hate that stuff but there are times it's the only thing to use.

Re: GT750 Phat Trakka - Almost ready to rock

yeah this is amazing. nice touch with the leds and the engine bolts and the filler cap on the tank and . . . . everything.

what are you using for the headlight? and where did you get it?

Re: GT750 Phat Trakka - Almost ready to rock

Teazer, I know I am a little late to the party but that tracker is amazing. Well done sir...

Re: GT750 Phat Trakka - Almost ready to rock

Thanks Tweakin,

Did you see the dyno videos

and

Obviously the bodywork was all removed to make access simpler and we were using a remote (auxilliary) fuel tank. We tested three exhaust systems and a couple of ignition settings but ran out of time to optimize everything. That will have to wait now until it gets a little warmer.

Those runs were on 93 Octane street gas. Had a drum of 116 and a drum of VP racing U4.4 ready to test, but at this stage we are still at the coarse end of the fine tuning spectrum.
