Hand Painting Tank Graphics

I'm thinking of asking a buddy who is an artist to paint something on my tank. Has anyone tried hand painting on a tank?

I thought it would be ok if I 2pac clear coat it after. Advice?

Check out the hand painting Milehigh did on Justinlonghorn's tank. That was garden variety acrylic paint with a 2k clearcoat over it. I had a little PM conversation with Milehigh about this process, and he knows a lot about it. You may want to give him a shout.

OneShot is kind of the gold standard for automotive hand painting, but it's pretty damn spendy.

Paint is paint (in this instance). Prep is key. Use a good primer and proper clear coat and go to town.

Be sure your graphics paint is compatible with your top (clear) coat. For example, One Shot enamel will melt to nothing under some good poly clear, and you will be back to square one...

and post pics!

My two cents, leave it to professional.

Most of us would be riding stock motorcycles if we left it to the professionals..

Do some research and jump in both feet. Leave the professionals as a back up. ;D

To each his own. Striping is typically the last thing you do to a bike and it can make or break it but your right, can't learn unless you try. For me personally, when it comes to major engine repair, complex wiring and final paint and striping with paint I have learned my limitations. I guess if your talking about taping off and spraying big racing stripes you cant really go wrong and it definitely can improve the look of a bike.

I'm about to do some rattle can art on a tank, I'm prepping the tank, gel coat ,&priming n sanding now.I say,if you or someone you know can do what u want ,go for it,nobody can convey my ideas better than me! That's what pushes us to customize in the first place! YouTube is an invaluable resource to lean how to do things the right way, rattle can painting with proffesional results is easy if you know how,it's all in the prep work, still a little more sanding n priming to go,but it should come out pretty dadgum good! I'll be sure and post results!any how that's all I got tonight!

we can do this for anyone. send us your tank and ideas and i can have it done. it is much more affordable than you think

i will get some more up when i am in the gallery next to lay clear on the next round of tanks... some pretty wicked stuff

you might be able to use airbrush paints?
you can get solvent or water based varieties, and are made for automotive applications... but not having actually used any, I don't know what the consistency is like and how they would go with a brush.

before you thin airbursh paint it is pretty thick, so that may work out, you have to knock them down pretty much to get a smooth flow though the airbrush gun, you want them to have a milk like consistency, before you thin it, it is about the same as like house paint for example.
