Happy Thanksgiving and a question about compression.

Ethanol

Coast to Coast
Got a 82 Kz440 in the shop. Got it running no problem but one side spits oil. Checked compression. Right side is 150 (where it should be) and left side is 110. Put some gear oil in the left cylinder and compression read 140.

Think it's rings or could the valves etc be letting that much compression out? Also can the old oil test change how well (at least temporarily) the valves are seating?

Thanks!

I'd say it's the rings. I have never seen the "oil test" help valves seal, it just temporarily fills the scoring in the cylinder walls.

Leak down test is best for compression, but it sounds like you've likely nailed it (too bad). Might get away with just a hone and new rings.
