Hardway's Savage build

Hello, I posted my project in intros, thought I'd move it over here, (hope its the right place) Showing what I got so far. The tailsection is a swap meet sportster gas tank (came with a pingle petcock!) CB200 gas tank, and I just got some rearsets from Dime City but haven't figured out how to mount 'em. The swingarm on this bike is outside the frame!

What a pity Cafe Racers weren't more popular when the Savage was designed !

With a few tweaks it could have been VERY Gold Star'ish. Even the exhaust is a virtual copy!

I looked very hard at the Savage as a basis for my "Big Single" project, but there were too many things I wanted to change - like the belt drive [ cosmetics only ]. Things like seat position are easilly changed - as you have already done, but I also like the look of a twin front downtube frame.

So - although I bought a Yamaha TT600 unit to go into my chosen rolling chassis [ XS500 ] - I've now decided that it just has to be a Savage unit!

I saw one the other day with the chrome top covers [ head ] removed - and it looked much more Cafe Racer and less Cruiser!

Savages aren't too plentiful here in the UK, so I guess I'll get on with the rolling chassis and get an engine when one turns up at the right price.

BTW - the XS500 rolling chassis was as bought - NOT going to be Orange ! All I've done to date is mock up with my old Tank and Duke 750SS seat.

Any plans to tweak the power?

Keep the pix coming - it's great to see the big old singles making a comeback.

Beachcomber, I think the savage engine will look great in your xs500 chassis. With your Triumph gas tank, Ducati seat, and Japanese engine, your bike will be very international!
I'm hoping that with the bike being much lighter than stock now, rejetting the carb and a free flowing exhaust will make it go good. I'll be looking into a cam and possibly a big-bore kit down the road.
