Harley 48 Cafe

At least it can all be put back =)
You must not have noticed that he cut the rear section of his frame off to create this masterpiece.

Did you know that a rear fender can be engineered to add structural rigidity to the rear of a twin shock motorcycle, such as the case with the H-D Sportster?

Seat doesn't fit, doesn't function, and doesn't look good.

Pipe wrap is ugly, adds weight, and ruins your pipes.

Upside down bars are kin to pink tassles.

You devalued your bike by at least two thousand dollars. I hope it's paid off. It's not too late to change it back with a little welding. Seriously.

I think you've made your point, you don't like the bike. move along dude.

Yep, I didn't notice that in the first look through. I'm a welder though, even that can be put back. And you don't even have to be a GOOD welder to match some of Harleys factory ones lol

So far nobody here likes it. They just have more class and tact than I do. I'd rather tell you the truth and see you change it back to the nice bike it was before you ruined it.

Thanks for your opinion. As I continue to ruin it, please feel free to check back and troll away.

Very well then. I will cross out the opinion and leave you with the facts.

So, is she even paid off yet?

Fair point. I figured I wouldn't fit in with the Cafe or Harley crowd with this. But I really love it and it is much more enjoyable to ride.

I pride myself on being a nice guy, but man... I've got to agree with DOHC.

Whether we all like it or not, the reason we post our bikes up on this site is to get opinions/feedback (right?). I've received my fair share of comments that I didn't LIKE, but that didn't mean they weren't TRUE.

Maybe I just like the stock 48 more than you do? I dunno. But either way, pay close attention to the safety concerns raised. They're the ones that really matter. I usually tell guys to build a bike that THEY like and enjoy it... but you really have taken a beautiful bike a devalued it. Just not sure why you spent all that money on that bike in the first place if you didn't like it? Could've spent that money on a better candidate for a cafe style bike, OR just had a sick custom built out of whatever you wanted.

Taste in design is about as subjective as it gets. The only fact is that I love it and want to have a place to document the progress. Feedback good or bad is welcome.

Paid off the day it left the dealership but who cares. I would have done this even if it wasn't paid off. I don't think I have ever purchased a bike and thought about resale value as I intend to keep until it or I die.

Preachin to the quire mang... I'm a fan of the potato potato potato song and always enjoyed the little sporty too... Hell my current CB750 has a Harley tank, Italian Sprint but still had HD painted on it as new... I may not even come close to most here on DTT but I have rode everything I could and owned one or two of a lot of them... Harley holds a special spot in the lineup.

The bike your riding is yours, it looks great, the bars are fine if "you" like em, the tire will rub and until you get tired of it you can do what you want there... Keep it up search and find the quirks before they happen and you will never regret it

Sure, thats one reason I posted it. I also see it as a tool to document the progress for my personal use. What I don't understand is the continual badgering. If you don't like it, say your opinion and move on. Why is there a need to come back with a left hook?

I really enjoyed the style of the 48 for the first couple years, but my taste has changed. I found this to be the best way to reach the style I wanted while maintaining a strong reliable bike. The peanut tank with the cafe style seat really tickles my fancy. As far as safety, I get it and will take it seriously.

I hear ya. And I'm not trying to badger, just trying to understand the thinking behind it which you just explained. So thanks and enjoy the ride.

The shocks on that inspiration pic are Burly Stilettos, I had them on my Sportster and I can vouch that they are a tremendous upgrade over stock. The dual spring setup provides excellent handling and a really nice ride in both on- and off-road situations, and they're very competitively priced. I am not affiliated with the company, I just really enjoyed their product! One of the best bang for the buck upgrades you could make to that bike (aside from a set of handlebars!)

I really dig those. I'll put them on the "Near Future To Do" List. Have you seen them in all black?

The psychology is obvious. Unfortunately, knowing the badgerer is insecure doesn't make them any less annoying.

Nice bike. I'd probably keep it stock, too, ha ha. But you seem to have a great attitude, and congrats on shedding that weight!

The exhaust on this is so cool. the tail pipe looks like a welded piece of square structure tubing but actually looks good in this application.

MGbracer80- This may be a silly question, but I am pretty new to this. how do the mid controls controls feel with the lower bars? is it kind of cramped up feeling? also does it get pretty warm with your foot right on that tail pipe?

Mate, if it feel's good, do it. If it floats your boat, cool!! Everyone has different tastes, I am sure there are people ready to launch the shit cannon at me at some stage (if they haven't already) How do you find those controls now you have moved them?? could they go any further back? would like to see a pic of you seated on it, give me some ideas for my thing ;)

That box exhaust is from DP Custom Cycles, if anyone wanted to know. Haven't seen or heard one in person but I've always thought it was cool
