Harley Davidson Cafe Racer?

I'm surprised nobody has brought it up- what about the old Sprint? They are "technically" Harley's, and a google image search brought up some prime examples. I'm on my phone and can't paste any here though.

Yeah, they're cool bikes, but I'm not sure how the word "technically" works. I would lean more toward saying the Sprints are "ostensibly" a Harley and "technically" an Aermacchi. :p All ridiculous nit-picking aside, they are cool bikes, and at least Harley had enough good sense to sell them for awhile.

The HD that to me captures what HD are capable of is the XR flat track racer. They look awesome IMO. A triumph of function creates form. it looks right because it is right, and not the other way around.

HD bought Aermacchi in 1961, they have always been an acquisition company, particularly when there is some technology they want.
Aermacchi had a pretty good race bike which did get well developed.
Pretty sure some of the stuff they learned ended up in Sportsters and the flat-trackers.
I think if I ever get an HD it's going to be a sporty with two front heads and new cams for rear cylinder ;)

I love the new XR1200. Simply too, because its based on the pedigree of the famous Harley race bikes, dirt and otherwise. I love the stance and the equipment. Also like the fact that they beefed the motor with some buell componentry, and you'll see in specs that the XR makes more power than the standard 1200 sporty with the addition of the Buell heads and some different airboxing. Anyway, honestly my favorite bike out, right now, if I had 20 grand to buy and create my most desired motorcycle, it would to buy a used XR1200 in orange, and throw all of the Storz equipment on it. Perfection!

so i know i said buells didnt count earlier but ONLY because my dad is visiting me I took him down to the harely dealership. the small town he lives in doesnt have one and he is in the market. if it means that i get his fully built 750 shadow... i guess i can deal. hate cruisers but it would be nice to ride something besides my 350 screaming down the interstate. anyway saw this puppy displayed on their "history" shelf and it was SICK.

That Norley is SICK!

The Norley is pretty cool, and so are some of the "Sporton" projects I've seen (see below). I'm sure they're quite nimble with those narrow tires in the back, but I have to wonder how well they cope with that v-twin torque when exiting a corner on the throttle. I'm sure it would keep your full attention, haha.

Featherbeds can handle anything a Sportser could throw at it.

It's funny how Harley discussions bring out much more negative and positive passion than other brands, what I find weird is how many Harley owners look down on the Sportster as an entry level or girls bike, maybe a bike that can go around corners and has the potential of a racer goes against the grain for the riders of lardy bikes. What I find particularly funny is the use of words such as dude, bro and buddy by Brit and European middle aged Harley owners, it just sounds ridiculous coming from a non American, also is it compulsory to drink Jack Daniels once you own a Harley? Personally I think a Sportster would make a fine Cafe Racer, hopefully we will see more V twin Cafe Racers in the future, after all Vincent made a very fine, and fast V twin racer.
