Have I been played? Deals gone bad...

Frankenfe

Coast to Coast
I found an Tank here on DTT that I liked and thought if I could get it, I would put it away for a future build I have been gathering parts for. I began to negotiate with the seller through a few emails. During the negotiations I ran across some alloy rims I wanted for my current build but would need to act quickly on them If I wanted them. I made it clear to the seller I only had "Budget" for one (The Tank or the Rims) and if we were going to put together a deal we would need to quickly. He accepted my offer and I let the rims get away.

Well it has been 3 days since he accepted my offer and I have emailed him a couple times to supply me with payment directions with No response.

I am kinda gettin pissed now cuz If he backs out on the deal I have lost out on the rims, and I hate being in limbo.... the mind starts to wonder, was I used to negotiate a higher price from someone else? has he sold to someone else? If so I wish he had the balls to tell me. I would still be pissed cuz that is not how I do things, my word is good, but at least I could move on. Am I being anal/impatient?

Happens to all of us, more times than I'm sure any of us like.

What sort of alloy rims are you after?

I give a week and that's it.

Kinda what I was thinking too, shit does happen, I just hate being in limbo. I have some money set aside for parts and I have already missed a deal on some alloy wheels. I guess I need to stay away from ebay and CL until I am sure he has f'd me over. I have sold alot of parts through the years most of them through emails & phone calls. I have been in situations where I have commited a part to someone only to have someone else come along and offer me more and declined. Maybe it is a blessing in disguise..like Tyler Jay pointed out, it could be worse I could have sent money, then been blown off.

Parts come and go and sometimes we miss out on the bargain of a lifetime - not very often though. When something like that happens to me I realize that for whatever reason it wasn't meant to be. It usually means that the part I really wanted will present itself soon and taht I was chasing things that would have done but were not necessarily ideal in some way or another..

There are some great deal on alloy rims from time to time and swapmeets are also a good place to look. We picked up a NEW TZ alloy rim at a swapmeet for $15 a couple of years ago and that's even lighter than the aftermarket rims.

Keep an eye on ebay for rims from the far east. Some of them are very good and well priced.

18" 36 Hole, Ideally WM2 & WM3 Shouldered. But any 18" 36 Hole 1.85 & 2.15 Aluminum Alloy rim that will be suaitable for Honda Hubs.

The good news is he Just got in touch with me, hopefully communications will go smooth enough now that I will be confident enough send $$$

I came close to being ripped of 3 times from 3 different companies in a matter of a month. First was my Dyna S I bought. Now I'm sure this was an honest mistake but I called after 2 weeks from my payment taken out to find out they never sent it to me. Second was sunglasses I bought, They took $138 out of my account for some damn reason (original price for $32), I got the glasses after 3 weeks. I told them to put my money back into my account and got ignored after the first talk and the second time I called they fixed it. Third was a hat I bought and took a month to deliver to me when estimated shipping was 5-10 business days.

Sorry for thread jack, It just kind of pissed me off and I need to get it out haha.

For 36 hole shouldered rims, you can't beat the ones MikesXS sells for the XS650. $90 for a new polished shouldered alloy rim, DOT certified. I'm running one of them on my XS (18" up front laced to a Suzuki drum hub).

The 18" rims are rears, and therefore drilled at the right angles for larger hubs. A smaller disc brake front hub would probably not work well in the rim, but they do sell 19" rims for that.

Good luck with the deal in any case! Use PayPal and save all your emails. Maybe offer to send 1/2 the money up front and the remainder when you get the rims.

Goshencafe: No Worries...Exactly what I was doing..Venting

Teazer: I cruise CL & ebay all the time, not many Swap Meets here, at least that I know of.

Tim: I have looked at MikesXS and if I remember correctly he does not carry 36 Hole anymore, or the sizes I was looking for,

I did find these from the infamous Champ250 ("Value" Clip-Ons guy) on ebay but the largest width is a 1.85. Too bad cuz a smokin deal at $54.95 with Free Shipping. But he does not have and can't get 2.15", and I want them to match Front & Rear.

No you don't. Let me expand on that. That may be what you think you want but your bike works best with a smaller front rim.

if you can accept that premise, I'd grab that skinny rim ASAP and then troll scrap yards for an old XS650 or Tx750 which came with the perfect rear rim. It's alloy, 2.15-18 * 36 and usually quite cheap.

Ditto what teazer said - I can understand you wanting same size f/r for aesthetic purposes but when you're riding you'll most likely want a smaller front than rear, even if its only by a small amount.

It gives you better tip-in, better tracking and often something indescribable that you'll put in the 'feel' basket. Theres also a bit less unsprung weight, which will mean that your suspension will work better and as a result give you marginally better grip.

Funny how when you type something you know what you mean, but when others read it they get something else.

My intention is:
FRONT - 18" -1.85 or WM2
REAR - 18" 2.15 or WM3

When I said "Match" I meant Manufacturer/Design/Style/Finish, thus my reluctance to get the 1.85 $54.95 ebay rim since I can't get it in 2.15

I've got a high shouldered Akront 2.15x18 that I'd be willing to part with simply because I'm looking for a 40 spoke for a hub conversion.

Maybe I should change this to Alloy Rims on a Budget.....

UPDATE ON THE DEAL...
Seller has sent a video of part and 4 or 5 new pics so we ARE back on track.
