headers only

Can't decide on a pipe for my cb750. The bike looks awesome with headers only. Is the sound unbearable or is it not too bad? Thanks in advance. Total newb so forgive my ignorance if this is a silly question.

Been asked hundreds of times. Try searching.

1. Its too loud. even if you don't mind it, other people will, and loud pipes do not save lives. Also, it only makes other riders look bad as we all get filed into the "motorcycles are loud and annoying" category, even if we have baffled bikes.

2. Your losing power most everywhere except for maybe right at the end of your power range (that is, if you actually TUNE your bike for the no headers).

3. Your doing damage to the bike. Not only from running lean if you dont change your jetting, but also from damage as a result of the lack of backpressure.

4. If you can't decide on a pipe, then please, for gods sake, just put SOMETHING on there until you do. Meanwhile, get yourself a sketch pad and think of something. Only YOU have to like it. Or do what anyone who puts function in front of form does, and design a pipe that outperforms everything else. It doesn't matter much how it looks if it outperforms its "pretty" counterpart.

5. IMHO... The bike does not look awesome with headers only. At least, it won't to anyone who knows a thing or two about bikes. Yes, what looks good is opinion. But I bet I'm not the only one when i say this:

A bike with only headers is a bike that is unfinished.

You got a long ways to go goose. We were all total newbs once. the only way to not be is to take peoples advice (not necessarily mine, I'm usually wrong anyway, but believe me I'm right here ;) ) and do a LOT of research.

Heck, i bet just googling "motorcycle exhaust design" will get you a ton of useful information. but meanwhile, pick up some books. may i recommend the following:

http://www.amazon.com/Performance-Tuning-Theory-Practice-Strokes/dp/0854292756

for only 3 bucks... its a fucking golden bible. If your that cheap though, I DO have a PDF copy, but its well worth the download.

ALSO: wrong section.

Yes, from personal experience it's to loud. Sounds cool the first few times you ride it then it gets seriously annoying. If you indeed like the look of no mufflers then get some baffles for the pipes. Still sounds good just quieter.

If you like the look of no mufflers, maybe think about a spring loaded baffle system? these guys aren't the only people that make them but it will give you an idea of what I'm talking about. Google "spring loaded baffle" and with a bit of tenacity you'll find plenty of info.

This is the route I will be taking with my build. but first off I am going to try and make them myself because I'd rather try and DIY it first before spending hasrd earned £/$'s

As others have said, without, doing something to put some back pressure in the system, it will most likely run like crap and the neighbours won't appreciate the noise that you think sounds just like a finely tuned race bike.

If you are aged 12-15 the bike will be hideously fast with open headers. If you are over 21 you will realize that the bike will run for shit with open headers plus you will piss off everyone within earshot. And after a short while you'll piss yourself off with the din. The engineers didn't put a muffler on just to make it quiet.

Lots of cans (muflers) are tunable to some degree. I run a Series K Kerker 4-1 on my Radian. U can remove 3 allen head bolts remove the baffle and wrap it (or Not) anyway u want it. More wrap= quieter and more back pressure. No baffle= loud as Hell.Since I run stock carbs, I use two wraps of material. Bike is a lille loud at high rpms, but very quiet at street riding levels. Cops and neighbors pay me no mind whatsoever. The Vance and Hines 4-1 on my KZ1000 also has a removable, tunable baffle.bj

Been asked hundreds of times. Try searching. (I did and found nothing, tried three different ways)

1. Its too loud. (thank you, this is what I wanted to know)

5. IMHO... The bike does not look awesome with headers only. (I asked whether they were to loud, my likes are different from yoursas far as looks go)

You got a long ways to go goose. (you have made alot of assumptions based off my very simple question)

may i recommend the following:

http://www.amazon.com/Performance-Tuning-Theory-Practice-Strokes/dp/0854292756

for only 3 bucks... its a fucking golden bible. If your that CHEAP though(again major assumption, nonetheless thank you very much for the link)

ALSO: wrong section. ANYTHING GOES...Guess not?! LOL Seriously thanks for the tips from you and all other replies, appreciate it : )

haha anytime goose. Yeah, anything goes (valid point) but you'll get a faster response and a better one in the right section.

heck, if anything goes i COULD have lied and said that it will make your bike go 50mph faster and only YOU notice the extra noise ;)
