Headlight Question (75 CB400f)

timeconsuming

Foolish until proven intelligent.
Hey guys

So a couple weeks ago my low beam stopped working. Didn't really phase me, just ran the high beams at night and kept lights off during the day (actually kind of good to have the headlight off since the charging system is fully stock).

Anyway, I went for a short ride tonight, with high beams on and functioning. Stopped at a coffee shop for about 20-30 minutes, hop back on the bike and it appears my high beams are done now as well.

I'm assuming the bulbs are just burnt out, I have no idea how old they were so it seems plausible.

Question:

I've been wanting to replace the whole headlight because my housing is cracked and generally in poor condition. The stock bulb is a sealed 50/35w and I'm wondering if I can simply junk the whole thing and pick up a newer thing like this:

"5-3/4" Old School "Bottom Mount" Bates Headlight"

Main concern:

Since it uses an H4 bulb, will I run into any electrical compatibility issues with my otherwise stock electrical?

Secondary concern:

I also noticed that my stock headlight is home to a pretty hilarious pile of wiring, so one concern is the fact that this head light doesn't seem to be capable of holding all that crap. Would I have to find a new spot to hide them? Or better yet just chop up the tangle of wires and make em short/more direct? It seems like my entire wiring harness just threw up into the back of my head light, and it's a little unnerving having it all crammed in behind the bulb anyway.

Thanks guys!

I don't really know if the headlight is electrically speaking compatible!
As far as the shi...load of cables that are hidden inside there...It seems like the perfect excuse to relocate/simplify the wiring harness.
You can do the entire thing or simply relocate those cables under the tank or between the side panels.
I don't think relocating them is gonna be that hard.
Just my opinion though!
Be sure to post some pics if you do change your headlight ;)

The only wires you need to be concerned with are the green, white, and, blue. The fact that your replacement is halogen is of no concern as long as as it's 12v.. The halogen bulb has the same hook up...ground, lo beam and hi beam. All Hondas have a shitload of wires in the headlight.

Right on, thanks guys.

I guess my bike has some weird non standard size headlight (6.25" ?) so I'll be replacing the whole bucket for future ease of replacement.

The headlight you have listed is another type of mount than yours I believe, that's why the size diff too. Your bucket size isn't unusual for the smaller bikes its normal

That is more your speed^^ If I were you I would go to the smaller h4 like the 35w. It will be much brighter than stock and you won't beat up your old stock stuff and it will be much easier on your charging system.
