Heat proof clear for jugs and head.

Been Around the Block
Hello all,

Does anyone know if you can buy a pressure pack clear coat that is heat proof.
I have polished the edges of the fins on my jugs and head and want to clear them so I don't have to continually keep up the polish.

I am in Australia, so hopefully something available here.

Thanks in advance.

First of all welcome to the site! And I know there are some more of us 175ers that would like to see more pics of that bike.

VHT makes a Satin Clear that is heat resistant but I don't know of the availibility in Au. If you could find a aluminum or chrome that is heat resistant you could spray a little bit at a time in a little plastic cup (lid of the paint) and get a small paintbrush to put it on the edges though

Thanks for the welcome. Great site!!!

I think we get VHT here. I'll start looking.

Also I plan to post a full rebuild diary when I get nearer to completion. This thing is a ground up rebuild and I'm starting with the motor.
I'm looking at a 12 month project. So rather than post a few pics a month, I'll do an extensive post when closer to finishing.

Thanks for the tips, I think VHT sprayed into the lid and applied with a brush is the way to go.

I think REPCO in Oz stock VHT paints. Just hope thay got a clear.

Cheers.

P.S. Here's most of the motor, I'm still working on the head.

Did you flatten the edge of your fins to get them polished like that? I wasnted to do the same on my 175 but the fins on mine are tapered vs. flat and I'm leary of taking too much metal off.

Hope you stick around post a build thread, motor looks great!

Yep, spent AGES with a file, then Emery cloth, then wet & dry, then metal polish.
This was after sand blasting to get it all super clean.
I then coated the edges with a very thin film of silicone lubricant applied with a cotton bud.
After paint I ran over the edges with a rego label scraper then repolished them.

Easy.........but VERY time consuming.

I will post a full build thread when I'm closer to finishing. Still 12 months away at this rate.

Cheers.

VHT fireproof clear is $18/can at autobarn
call ahead, its not stocked everywhere, but most of them have it.

Thanks heaps, I'm off to Autobarn tomorrow, after I call em!

Then it's time to attack the head.

Cheers.

Thank you for the info, I'll definately be putting the extra work in to do the same.
