If all goes according to plan, I'll be picking up a 1980 XS1100 tomorrow. I'm trading my '95 Yamaha Big Bear 350 4x4 for it straight up (the ATV has a busted rear end).
The last time I had a motorcycle was 8 or 9 years ago, an '01 Honda Shadow Spirit 750 that I bought new. I sold it to buy the ATV after I realized daily-driving a motorcycle gets old, and the woods by my house had a lot of adventures waiting for someone with an ATV (now I have a full size Bronco, good enough). Before the Honda I had my first bike, an '81 Yamaha Virago 750. What a hunk of shit that was. But it got me to learn how to turn wrenches, and how to dig through junk yards before we had a whole bunch of resources online.
So I'm ready to start over with another old busted bike, with a little more experience under my belt, and the added resources of the internet now available to me. After I get it running I'd like to make a brat-style seat (for riding 2-up), get some clip-ons, one of those tiny all-in-one gauges, do something with the lights, and probably the best rattle can job I can muster.
