Hi guys,
I've been browsing the forums for awhile and decided I should finally introduce myself.
I've been planing a cafe racer build for over a year or two, and finally things fell together. Over the weekend my brother randomly showed up at my house with a motorcycle I've had my eye on for 2 years now (It's *only* a 7 hour drive for him). Apparently, my amazing fiance found the perfect birthday present/project, a 1978 CB400T.
I know, I know, There is a lot of hate for the Cb400Ts. Personally, my favorite comments were "They're the herpes of the motorcycle world" and "Modifying a hawk is like sending a prostitute to college, it'll make it better but you won't feel it when riding." Thank you to the people who said that, I laughed pretty hard. It's probably true, but there is some back history and some sentimental value to the bike, and with my plans for it, I'm hoping it'll be alright.
The bike belonged to one of my dad's best friends, and one of our close neighbors growing up. Guess I'm just a sucker for history like that. I'd like to build it into a cafe racer / urban machine. I'm already aware that the bike will have a hard time doing a ton, so I want to gear it down, and make it a fun ride around bike. If I'm really feeling that power hungry itch, I'll always have my V-Rod of the fiance's CBR to take for a spin. Guess I'm interested in really building up my bike building abilities here.
Anyway, the bike is very nice - 7k on the tach and after some mild work we had it running strong. I haven't been able to ride it yet as there is rust in the tank, and the clutch plates are stuck together, but it'll be a fun project. Unfortuatnely, this will be a slow build as most of my monies are going towards a wedding in June. Wish me luck!
