I've hit a "creators block"... i cant figure out the best way to mount my seat to the bike. I have plenty of ideas but can't seem to decide which way to go.
I have some sheet metal to use in the process and i dont care if the seat folds open or is stationary. here are some ideas that i have:
- use the sheetmetal with a flange so that the metal is either flush with the bottom seat edge, or recessed up into the seat a 1/2" or so or,
- fab a skeleton frame for the inside of the seat and mount that somehow to the bike frame or,
- a combo of both
here is what i'm working with.
Make a plywood base out of 1/2"-3/4" ply, epoxy the base to the inside of the shell, get heavy duty Military grade velcro, glue a few tabs to the frame and to the base and bob's your uncle!
I haven't gotten this far with mine but like Joe said I would drill some holes in the seat where them 2 threaded holes are in the cross brace and the one up by the tank and put some rubber spacers in there and screw the seat right down.
One single 3\8 bolt holds down my fiberglass seat and threads into the cross brace from the top(cb 350 road racing lump),,no upholstrey just 3/4 high density foam( no wonder my cheeks hurt!) plywood is a great idea and you could mount the bolt(s) in before hand and expoxy the wood to the underside of the seat ,drill and bolt from the underside of the brace
I made mine from aluminum u channel and an old street sign. I used old mouse pads between the fiberglass and the aluminum seatpan to absorb shock. Bolted it all together because I dont weld too good yet. Used the original rd350 seat hardware to mount it to the frame so it opens easily. Nice for battery maintenance and adding more two stroke oil.
