HELP! Lean issue

So I'm having what I think is a issue with my 1974 CB360. I taken apart the carbs, soaked them in chem carb cleaner for about 2 hours, rinsed them and blew them out with compressed air. I put them back on and I'm getting coughing and spitting out of the carbs, and back firing. I regapped the points at .014 and static timed it, everything is right on the mark. Still couging and irregular idle speed... and backfiring. I took them off again and rechecked the floats and they are at 19mm, reassembled... cough/spit backfire. I backed the air/fuel mixtures out (thinking that should make the mixture more rich) just as far as I could without them falling out. cough/spit ... back fire. It starts and idles, but the higher I rev the engine the more it does it. Bike is completely stock, no mods what so ever. I'm ready to throw the carbs out of the window... but decided not to do that due to needing them ;D

Can anybody point me in the right direction? Diaphragms are good, everything was clear after cleaning.... Any and all help would be appreciated. I admit I'm new to motorcycle tuning, so please don't hesitate to bluntly point out something completely obvious. THANKS!

Was it running fine before the cleaning?

It wasn't running at all. I got most of it in boxes and putting it back together. The carbs were "supposedly" cleaned before I bought the bike, and all it needed was electrical done. After finding the other work done by the PO, I decided to redo the carbs.. Sorry

Check for air leaks around the intakes.
If you can get it to run, spray some carb cleaner around the intakes and see if the rpms change.

Definitly check for leaks like SONICJK suggested. Also, does it improve when you rev it a bit, or does it still sputter. Did you adjust the valve clearances to spec? Compression alright?

It starts and idles, although irregular idle. I will give it a spray to see what happens. I hope it's something easy like that. Like I said, don't hesitate to bluntly point out the obvious. Thanks I'll post up what I find on that.

It get's worse the more or higher I rev it.. I was thinking something might be "stuck" .. or I didn't do something right.. I have not done the valves, or compression, next in line :)

new sparkplugs and check for water in the gas, drain float bowls, taking a careful look in the drainage may tell, but a little water in yer gas will make it spit and sputter
