Help me figure out my neutral light indicator light wiring.

My aftermarket speedo has idiot lights built in. They all share one earth and are switched on with the live supply.

My neutral switch is closed/no current passes through when in neutral. And it's open current passes through when out of neutral.

How the hell do I get the poxy idiot light on.

If I connect the speedo earth to the neutral switch and the live for the idiot light to 12v it works as it should but then the indicator idiot light and high beam idiot light only work when in neutral.

Is it possible to get it to work?

Not sure what bike you have but my Suzuki neutral light had power to the bulb all the time and the wire to the shifter was the path to ground. When in neutral the circuit was completed (closed) thus turning on the light.

I'm not sure I understand your discription of your open & closed circuit. But electrical is not my strong suit.

As minicafe said, the neutral light ground wire must run to the neutral switch. To get the aftermarket speedo to work, you'll have to split the ground so that only the high beam and indicator lights are grounded to the bike and a separate ground goes from the neutral light to the neutral switch. They can then share a switched 12v power supply.

If I wire it the same was as you then it works but the main beam and indicator idiot lights won't work when im out of neutral and riding as all 3 idiot lights share the 1 earth.

Sorry to sound dumb but can you explain a little more for me about splitting the ground.

I have one ground wire coming from speedo and if that's not grounded constantly then the indicator and high beam idiots lights won't work.

Where would I split it?

Each light has to have its own power & ground. Each light can share the same power source but then have its own ground. Example, neutral light has power to it but the ground to complete the circuit will have to be through the neutral switch, oil pressure light will have power and the oil pressure sender will be the path to ground, when oil pressure is low the sender connects to ground. Back light has its own power & its own ground. Take each indicator and study your wire diagram, you may find they all share the same power wire, but each have its own ground most likely through the activation of a switch.

The idiot lights can share a 12v but with only one ground out of my speedo I can't get it to work, It's bugging me right off now.

I've tried running power into the ground of the speedo and then using the the idiot wires as switched ground but it won't work. The leds only light up when the polarity is a certain way. I'll get pictures of my wiring diagrams now. So you can see what I'm working with.

This the ultima plus wiring section for the idiot lights.

This is my speedo
Idiot light Ground wire
Indicator wire x2
Illumination live wire
Illumination earth wire
Oil pressure wire
High beam wire

What speedo are you running that uses the same ground wire for the neutral as everything else? Never heard of that.

We can work around it, but it's kinda weird.

Speedo is cheap China rubbish.

I've sorted it now, opened the speedo up, desoldered the earth leg of the neutral LED. And soldered a wire onto the leg and connected that to the neutral switch. Job done.

New issue now is my headlight and tail light.
The handle bar switch I have doesn't have a flash headlight switch. Only headlight on button and a main beam button which only works when headlight is on which is no good if I want to flash my headlight in day light when headlight might not be on.

I have a 12v feed into handle bar switch that switches headlight and tail light on, and I have a high beam wire going to headlight
.
I've put a 12v supply direct to the high beam wire and added a switch. Only issue is when I press the switch to flash my high beam it's bringing on the tail light too.

Any ideas?

Try this wiring diagram... Ha just kidding.

Have you thought about just keeping the high beam light and disconnecting the low beam so when you select low beam you actually have no light thus making it a flasher.?
