The one I buy tomorrow has also a Standard Tank, but the Tank from at Special should fit.., I just think the Tank from a Special is looking small compared to the one on the picture..
Thanks for the compliment. A special tank bolts right on a standard xs11. There are some differences in how the fuel lines are run if the fuel lines are also from a special. There's a ton of great info at xs11.com
These are great bikes, but there are a few things to pay attention to. 2nd gear might slip if it's been romped on. And you'll probably want a front fork brace. At very least the front fender helps stiffen it a bit, so leave it at least until you get a proper brace.
I have read about problems with the gearbox and the benefits by having a front fork brace, which it have.. I will go in depth with xs11.com right away.. ;D
Here is some pics of the old lady from 81 as she looks now, but it must soon come to an end..
Thanks for Your input lurkmaster2000.., but I think it looks to small..
It's just a XS1100 midnight special tank. It's what my xs1100 came with. I also switched over to the standard tank. As Fix sez the 2nd gear is the weak point. I get to replace mine this winter. Very powerful cafe bike hold on!
Well I guess I better get a hold on a Special tank soon, I don't want to ruin the original paint on the original, and I better like the rounded shapes on the Special for a matte black paint..
The engine has 64622 miles on it.., and I have not discovered any problems with the gearbox..
A spare engine with 28583 miles on it is included with the purchase, so I should have been covered..
That tank looks great. If you weren't so far away I'd snatch it up from you in a heartbeat. That doesn't look like stock exhaust, but everything else looks good.
Oh, and FNG is right, that's not a virago tank in the first pic. The special tank has a squarer shape at the end of the taper than the virago.
It is fully understandable Fix, it's such a great Bike..
So for your sake, and because it is rare to see close ups of an almost original xs 11 these days, here are some pictures from when the old lady arrived..
Damn she is overall in good condition fx. rubber at the carbs looks brand new..
I would definitely agree with those who suggested the add on fork brace. My buddy has a 79 XS1100 and he added the fork brace from fastfromthepast.com for $100 or so I believe and he swears by it. Much more stable when cornering now he says.
