It's not a GT tank, the sides are too narrow and the fuel outlets are in the wrong spot. This is what a late 750 GT tank looks like.
EDIT: I guess it's not obvious in these photos.. anyway, a GT tank also has a slight valley in the top center. I'll try to find a pic of it from that angle...
EDIT 2: Not a great pic but you can sort of make out the center feature on the top. It also shows the indents for the badges on a GT.
I also just noticed the OP mentions it may be a '74 750SS tank. Nope. Wrong shape and wrong material. SS's had fiberglass tanks with an unpainted stripe on the side to check fuel level. It is likely a '70s Sport tank, not Super Sport.
