help with gs750 front axle

Just picked up a 79 GS750 but i think some one has the wrong front axle on it ,it sticks out about 1 inch past the lower fork. Does any one know what length the axle is? I can't find the length any place.
All spacers are there, brake is on right, nothing is bent ,just the axle is too long.
If any one owns one could you check the length of the axle and let me know. ???

i'm away from my garage for the weekend, but i can measure my 650 axles on monday if you want.

can you look on bikebandit to find out what other models share the 750 axle?

I have a 77 with 35mm forks. I can check tomorrow.

thanks, i think the 550=650-750 are the same. I have found the dia. but can't find the length.
looks like i will wait till you get back to me.

The overall length on my '82 550 is 9 7/8 inches.
