Hi there from Chilliwack BC, Canada.

Got turned on to this forum from another one here in BC and must say there appeares to be a wealth of knowlege to draw from.

Got the build bug for a Cafe/Rat bike some time ago and like most of the people around here I suspect hit that target age of 40 a couple of months ago. Seems that having another bike in the garage that just ate money and never went anywhere was not appealing to the wife but for my 40th birthday she bought me an 1981 KZ 1000 Police Special. It was a local purchase from a highschool shop instructor that was raising funds for his students.

Brought it home as a roller and in bozes.

It's now just about ready to ride but a long way from finished.

Just saying hi and don't want to put up a build thread until the old girl is done. Shouldn't be long now as the brakes are good to go now and the tank has fuel. Thanks for reading.

Ok, thought I'd add a vid of the ol' girl runing.

Haven't been down in a while since the passport laws took effect. Soon to change that though, taking a trip this summer around Wash,Idah,Mont. Not too many Wet' coasters around here I imagine?

Thanks, been a blast making it. Looking forward to getting the wheels powder coated and the final touch.

Well it's done. Should be getting a plate on her soon with some warmer weather coming. ;D

are those 28mm smooth bores? If so did they come with the bike or did you source them from somewhere else. Typically you find the bs34's on there. By the way love the bike. Not alot of big kawasakis on here.

Not the 34's and these came with. Here is a better picture. Thanks for the compliment and I've noticed there are not a lot of big bikes on here. Then again this isn't a real typical cafe though. More of a rat/cafe/garage bike. Still fun to build though.

No, not alot of big bikes but the ones that are on here always have nice little suprises to them. If you want more specific forum content on kz's though kzrider.com. Those guys are just packed with kz info. Hope you enjoy this site though, they have alot of helpful info on motorcycles in general. Also prob one of the nicer forums i have been on attitude wise.

Already over at KZrider.com and yup, nothing but KZ's but great info. You are right about this site, seems to be very laid back. Might have to do with the make up of riders here with disposible income and older. Looking forward to many days lurking and getting some insight.

Cheers.

lol, some have more disposable income than others, i thinkits just the common love of bikes. Plus if someone is getting kinda rude or outta hand pretty much everybody will tell them straight up what the deal is. We just all wanna chill and watch the show, lol.

Cool bike! I am working on something of the same type. Picked up an XJ1100 for free and have been working to cafe/whatever it. I am in Abbotsford

I almost picked up one of those myself. They are a solid platform as far as big bikes go and there are still parts availible. I'll look for your ride on the road this summer in the Valley. ;D

Don't want to jinx anything but the build looks to be over. Bike runs great now with new coils and some carb adjustments. I installed today a battery ground switch to make sure the old wires don't start a fire while I'm away from the bike. Also ripped out the battery box and made an under seat tray that holds all the electrics. Looks a lot cleaner like this and lends for some more air movement. Some new pics.

Hey Brother, I havent been on the forum for a while, but it is nice to see a local guy from the "Wack" on here. Love your bike. I am starting another as we speak. Are you considering any more builds or doing anymore work to the one you have?-RD

Thanks Red and good to hear about another valley rider. I'm not planing any more builds right now but you never know what might fall into your lap. I passed up last month a 81 750kz, great price but tooooo much work for me right now. As for this build I've put on some Tomaselli 3way clip-ons. Had to have a shim milled but they look a feel great with the floor boards. I made some rear sets but wasn't all that happy with them. They worked great but I felt the bike deserved the orig floor boars for that 'feel' to me and the history of the bike.

See you on the road in a few months.

Sorry to bring up an old thread but I was just too proud of some new seat work, new tires and of course some new stickers LOL. ;)

bradj's maybe selling special fuses just for this kind of crisis..... :-X

Just remember, yellow adds 10 pounds in pictures.

Love that seat, but how's the riding stance with the footboard and the brake pedal so far forward? After building a low profile seat on mine, I can really understand why rearsets are used, especially with clip-ons. My leg started to cramp on my first long ride. Looks sharp, though!

Thanks a lot. The ride isn't bad at all. You are just bent at the hips and not the knees. I'm kind of on the big side (6-3) so most bikes are cramped anyway, you just get used to it. I might get some rear sets but my heart isn't set on them just yet. And to be honest the seat hight is around that of the police saddle.
