Hey Paulb, how about some race bike photos?

You posted in the DO THE TON racebike thread that you've been racing for 23 years. I love race bikes, and thought you'd probably have some pretty cool pics.

I have also raced F! sidecars for 4 years.
Here is a nice 150 mile crash at Mid Ohio during the AMA Vintage weekend.

HOLY SHIT!!..

Took the words right out of my mouth. Those bikes with the sidecars look sick. I can't imaging being that close to the ground and hanging out over the edge like that. Must be amazing. So are you the driver or the leaner? The rear tires on those look massive, like a drag tire.

Not ran over.Lucky me and the rig are going the same speed.
We were in first place on the last lap at the end of the fastest straight away when we lost it sideways and spun out.
I walked away from it.
Here is my girlfriends account.
Cheers

well, all of the above is fairly accurate...but from a spectator's point of view who was positioned at the corner it went a little like this (forgive me, for the details will be sketchy since I think I'm still in shock!)

Rob and Ian lead for I think 2 laps. Ewan and Paul lead for I think 3. It was awesome racing! Very exciting and the peeps at Mid-O were loving the sidecars......all of them.
Waiting for the final lap, camera in hand I caught out of the corner of my eye the front of the Ewan's rig come screaming into the first turn....and before I knew it, it was doing something NOT GOOD. In rapid motion the front end snapped right then left - the fastest wobble you'll ever see - think BANG-BANG/left-right. Then it gets sketchy as hell because I just started screaming "oh mi gawd, oh mi gawd" and started sending telepathic messages to Paul "hang on baby, hang on....."(okay, that's supposed to be funny)

The rig snapped again and they were spun completely around facing the other way.

Then Paul slid off the back and I thought the rig and the boys were goners. I thought for sure it was gonna flip, Paul flying and Ewan pinned. But, oddly enough Paul "supermanned" and managed to still hang on. His arms and chest were on the platform, hanging on - the rest of his body was fully extended and stretched straight out on the track...funny, I thought to myself, I knew he was tall but he looks massive- like Vince Vaughan tall - only much cuter, not as witty though.

So, he should've been wearing a red cape with an "S" on it because that's what he looked ....

I believe, and please don't quote me, the rig snapped around again - now they were headed straight for the sand pit (not sure of the racing vocab) I think as it snapped back around that's when Paul let go and slid on his back across the track, toward the sand - and that's when I started praying " don't let him get crushed by the rig" because the rig was facing forward sailing into the sand as Paul was facing backward careening into the sand right beside the rig....................

So, the whole thing happened so fast but it really felt like I watched it in slo-mo!

And can you believe it - I didn't record any of it!!! What a shitty film producer I am. The million dollar shot and I blew it. I seriously, was shaking so bad that I must of hit stop or dropped the cam down, I really don't remember. I'm not religious in the least but I prayed to every freakin' deity there is....including Tom Cruise ' Help them Tom Cruise' (not funny if you've never seen Will Ferrell as Ricky Bobby)

What I do remember was being able to breathe again after the boys stood up and walked around.....that was nice. The crowd was clapping for them too......and some fans around me were really nice, one guy kept saying - "uh, maam, yer husband is waving to ya, uh, he can see ya maam, yooo should waaave baaaack"....in a lovely southern accent.

I walked through about 100 fans asking people if they got photos of the crash and 1 guy showed me a shot he snapped of Paul hanging off the back - seriously, it was quite the shot! He says he's going to email it to me. There were others too, I will have Paul post them as soon as I get them.

So, this whole experience was amazing as a spectator of the sport - awesome for my film, but lousy as hell for me as the other half (okay, who I am kidding - better half).

West Virginia better not be soooooo damn exciting!
