Oh perfect! Thanks for the tips! I might be wanting a bigger sized one though....lots of freeway driving out here. :/

Unless your huge a cb450T or 500T would carry you down the 405. Same with an xz650. Really depends on your commute if you would close, like Costa Mesa it would be no problem. But if your commute takes you far like RiverSide or LA the I'd go for a CB750. Lota bang for the buck.

I think you're right Louie....I guess I'm worried that for riding crotch rockets I would get enough power out of a 600 or lower. I thought for sure that once I hit 40 I would lose the drive to ride fast. :/

Oh yeah?? You got pics or anything? PM me!

Glad you joined the Forum, Dick! Welcome......I see you've got a lot of suggestions as to what bike to start on, probably more than you needed! I'm going to add another.....Check out a late '70s Yamaha XS650 Standard.....Very nice bike and relatively easy to convert to a wide variety of styles. If you want a Thruxton that you can afford and doesn't leak oil, the XS can be built that way.......Parts both stock and after market are widely available and since it's a twin the bill is half of what you would be paying to get into one of the 4 cylinder bikes.
I'm just starting my build on a '79 Standard and am going the cafe route,,,there are a few other 650 builders on site so you can compare notes. I think you will pleased at the help you can get here if you need it.
Good luck and I will look for your build whatever you choose!

parts unlimited is on beach and pacific, between katella and cerritos .

I can vouch for the XS650, you get the Ooomhp sound of the brits, but it is reliable. As said, it's a great canvas and the mechanical stuff is quite simple.

The XS650 forums are good with lots of help and information. Aftermarket this and that, you can spend shitloads of money on bling for them if you want.

But please, please, don't make a half assed cafe bike, there are too many of them floating around ;)
