Im brenda, a college student, but most importantly im romanian! Born and raised in western romania (and very proud of it) until my parents won the visa lottery. Moved around a lot but recently settled down in california. My dad is has been a mechanic since he was in high school but he lives in georgia. I want to spend this summer with him but im scared of boredom or awkwardness (its a long story). We both love motorcycles so i thought i should give him the idea of a summer project together. Why not a cafe racer? So here i am doing some research. Not sure if im in over my head, but who cares if i am!? Its just good fun and i need fun because im quickly learning just how (dumb) life can be. Hello to all you motorcycle junkies. I salute your love for this lifestyle/hobbie/addiction. You all give me hope, you brave souls you! any advice or just hellos are warmly welcome.

Oh I do have a few worries:
-money (my dad is cheap, realllllyyy cheap)
-time (i start school in late august)
-uhhh I can ride a bike but I cant build one (dads a mechanic and really good. he can fix a motorcycle but not sure if building one is similar to building a car) (he once built an industrial tractor from the ground up if that helps. no joke its in romania and still working 30 years later)

Motors are motors. If he is a mechanic, he should be just fine.

Building a bike together is an awesome idea. Make it happen.

To save money, try to find a bike in decent running condition (replacement parts can be very expensive). Make as many parts as you can (form a seat out of sheet metal, or make one out of fiberglass, etc).

Ask as many questions as you need to, you will find a very extensive knowledge base on this site.

Welcome to the fray, stick around a while, and you'll get to know some pretty damn good people.

Bine ai venit!

If you plan to stick with something vintage, these old machines are pretty easy. I'm no mechanic and I'm nearing the end of my first build. I imagine someone with a good practical background would find it a pleasure to tinker with one of these "simple" bikes.

Listen to these guys their good people.(Mostly) Look for the best bike you can afford. The less you need to fix the more you can spend getting where you want. If that makes sense, you're doin' well.Good luck, and welcome.

Georgia the country or Georgia the state? There's plenty to do over here!

Hey now, not all of Georgia is boring, lets make that clear. :) Now if your in south Georgia, then you might be in trouble.

Welcome to dtt. I see from some of your other posts that you're taking the "dive right in" approach, haha. Good for ya.

Georgia the state. Why do you ask?
is that a ruby helmet in your avatar?

I'm in Athens, Georgia. Nah, that's a Davida helmet in my avatar. If I ever had $450 to drop on a helmet that would be the one. I'm set right now. I have a full shelf of lids :)

UGA UGA! I'm still a fan :)
Gosh if I ever had $1000 bucks I'm still not sure I'd get I Ruby. But I do have this sweet idea of a helmet I want to paint myself! Soon as I have the time.

Oh sweet! What part of Constanta? I spend a lot of time in Costinesti. Crazy people there :) I'm riding a yamaha rd 350 right now. I haven't taken it apart or done anything to it because I have all winter to do that. How about you?
