Hit by a car in Philadelphia on the Parkway because some preggo' bitch was in a rush to pass me when I was in the clear. Was able to ride the bike home but everything on the right side is all bent up. Just a reminder to everyone to please wear a helmet because I foolishly wasn't and did make contact to the pavement with my head.

Didn't really get a chance to look at the bike yet 'cause it happened maybe 10 minutes ago. If anyone has extra parts laying around, I'll start to assess the damage and see what happened. FUCK

You are extremely lucky that you are even alive given you were not wearing a helmet...

I seriously think we all need to realize the potential for injury on bikes, I dont think people are taking it seriously and cant help but find myself thinking of friends and family I have seen pass away because of this. I lost a cousin to an accident and have seen many friends hurt. Riding a bike means understanding the risks and doing you best to mitigate those risks... However you choose to do so, be cautious as your life is in the balance.
I am not blaming the accident on you, just reflecting on the number of instances I have heard of in the past few weeks and cant help but to say that we need to get the word out that safety comes first... We all love bikes, they are beautiful and we appreciate how much fun we have on them but we need to ensure we can keep riding them by being cautious. I say this with conviction as I actually care what happens to you and others; Wear a Helmet, Wear your gear and ride carefully... Please. All it takes is one moment, one twist of the throttle and we will find ourselves in a place where we are going to go down. Dont speed on public roads, dont drink and ride, just enjoy the bike safetly.

Does anyone else feel as strongly about this as I do?

Zoow - I am happy to know you are safe and I am assume given you typed this that you are relatively unscathed... I want the best for you bud, Im an advocate for keeping you riding and that means you staying alive (first and foremost). Take care of yourself, get patched up if you need to and when the time comes get back on her.

Thanks for the concern. I come from a strong background of doing things where the risk of injury is high (BMX/skateboard/longboard/snowboard) so I understand how to "take" a fall however this is an extreme situation and really not all that comparable., I guess... You really can't take for granted a simple trip down the road, 'cause it clearly can happen anytime. Fortunately, it was approaching a red light, so the speed was only about 20MPH. The lady was clearly in the wrong and was gunning it to, I guess, beat me to the light? That or she honestly didn't see me 'cause the 200 is so tiny... She was pretty nice about the whole thing but still would not accept blame, and it happened so fast I honestly can only assume I know what happened, but I'm very confident about it. I've got a new outlook: All the gear, all the time. End of story. Scary, but won't keep me off the roads (for long).

I have friends that work at the local ER... they always call motorcyclists "organ donors" - btw... if you haven't signed up you really should just in case. They always say... "While I don't like wiping my own ass... I don't want anyone else to do it for me" So wear a helmet!

I'm glad that you're ok.
I learned very young that a helmet is not an optional piece of equipment. I hit a tree doing 25-30 mph. I was wearing a helmet and came away with only minor scrapes and bruises. Now I've upgraded to wearing armored riding jackets. They're relatively inexpensive though a little warm in the summer.

If you think she was in the wrong, do not let it go. There seems to be this whole new level of "acceptable" distraction for drivers these days. With cell phones, gps, texting, stereos, etc, they're just not paying attention. Luckily many states have passed laws. Hopefully they will become more strict in the coming months/years.

Heal fast and fix her up. I have some parts from a 72 CB175. Bars, pegs, etc. If you think they will work for you, their yours.

Was a police report filed? Insurance companies notified?

If a driver causes an accident, he/she should take full responsibility and make sure that you and your property are ok.

I haven't really looked at the damage to the bike yet. I rode it the 4 or so blocks home, and I know there was a little roadrash & lots of bent stuff... I'll have to take a closer look later. A cop did stop (an out of uniform cop on a police motorcycle... and he said he couldn't file a report buy would call a uniformed officer, but we both just said forget it.) I 've been hanging out with a buddy's girlfriend until he gets outta work and we all go out and drown our sorrows at the bar and we drove by where it happened... It was absolutely her fault, but she wasn't going to fess up... That and she said she was a week due to having a kid (and you could definitely see she was close). We exchanged numbers & all that crap but I really don't see either of our insurance fixing up a 36 year old (far from mint) bike. I think they'd write it off as totaled and not give me anything. I'm starting a new job Monday and just had a roommate steal some of my stuff when he moved out... I've just been having a rough week and I have a lot of crap to take care of aside from getting involved in a legal scuffle. Maybe this is a sign that it's time to upgrade? ;)

and Jake - thanks for the offer. I'll have to let you know. That is huge. The bars may have survived... not sure if they are bent or what, though. I'll have to take a closer look. I know the kickstart lever was ka'fuct, all the pegs on that side, rash on the covers/exhaustm, brake lever... hmm, that's all I really noticed. I was still seeing red as I drove home.

Dude always file a report . Also always wear a helmet.. You got lucky. same thing hapend to me last month i wasent so lucky . Check it

Im glad youre ok, and you NEED to go to a doctor. Not filing a report was a really bad idea. Head (and other) injuries sometimes take days to fully manifest. By not filing a report, and allowing the police to document the accident you have basically waived your right to compensation if you find that something really did get busted up. Not to mention the bike. Theres the possibility that it may cost you a good amount to get it 100% again. Even if the insurance wanted to "total" it, they still wouldve had to cut you a check. And with the prices of vintage bikes nowadays, it couldve been substancial (depending on your level of insurance obviously). Back to the main issue... Your health. As an example, I watched a teammate get kicked in the head during a soccer game years ago. Much less force that what impacted your dome, and get up. Kept playing and scored a goal in the 2nd. Next afternoon he collapsed and was nearly comatose. Swelling on the brain from the kick. He got to the ER quickly and ended up being fine.
