HollywoodMX's xv920/TR1 Cafe super-dupe!

New harness/module came in! Yay! It replaces the stock harness. This combined with mosfet regulator I am set. I can run a low amperage start switch with this too which is cool so I got a airplane style momentary switch for that.

Thanks buddy, those 2 builds are golden, keep it up.

DH900sl

Upper and lower frame welds all reinforced and now blended. Removed the breather tubes too. What a fricken chore, took three hours per xv frame to do the blending. I also reinforced the shock mount in the frame.

This frame is ready for powder coating now.

Ok update time. I ended up pulling my engine from the local engine shop cause they were just dicking me around and not doing the work.

I had a friend of mine who wants custom pistons in he states ship a combustion chamber mold but Arias said it wasn't good enough so my friend shipped Arias a 920 head and jug a couple days ago. In 6 to 8 weeks I should get the long awaited 11:1 96mm pistons.

So I have the back up 920 heads that have a valve job and 920 cylinders punched out to 96mm with stock xv1000 96mm overbore pistons.

I now have 2 new sets of megacycle cams. I have the street ones and the 495s. So what I plan to do is run the above 920 stuff with Street cams then when the pistons come I will switch to my tr1 jugs and more modified heads and the bigger cams.

Switching gears to powder coating.

Now my frame bits are off to the powder coaters. As a reminder This bikes colors are Gulf colors (light blue and orange) an tan seat with tan accents.

So I was thinking I would get all the frame bits powdered a dark gun metal instead of black. Anyone have any thoughts or opinions on the powder coat color?

I used Jaguar Opalescent Gunmetal a few years back [ 1960's colour ] .............. that would really pop with the Gulf colours.

Oh I like that color! Apparently there have a few gun metal colors, we'll see shortly here.

I reinforced my subframe similar to what I did with my tracker. Just to make it more solid.

The tracker stuff is done and ready for powder coating so that means is bikes stuff is going too.

Arias started the engineering on my pistons which is good. They needed a cylinder and a jug in the end. A friend who was close by sent them. I decided on 96mm which puts me just over 1000cc.

Ok these are the 3 options I toying around for the powder coating; all frame bits, swing arm, anything raw metal, etc. The parts on the left in the first pic. I included the gas tank colors (orange n blue) to compare with. I also included black in the grey and silver because the forks are black. My engine will be painted like stock. Silver case, black jugs, silver heads and a few black accents.

So we have 3 options for the above bits and I have to decide tomorrow, feel free to chime in. One is gloss black, one is a metallic grey and one is a metallic silver.

You already have my nod for the frame ................. however, I've never seen a PC finish to hold a candle to a painted finish [ Tank, "tins", etc ] unless you are going for a satin / matt finish. PC just doesn't have the same depth of gloss.

Fine [ IMO ] for frame, bits and bobs ... just my 4 pennarth.

I know what you mean after I looked at about 25 different samples but that gloss black is called Mercedes black. It was very different from the others. It had that paint look. There were a few blacks that were textured that looked pretty good too.

I'm leaning towards the silver or the black.

I'd say gloss black - maybe that Merc one.
The XV frames aren't a thing of beauty (understatement of some magnitude and thank gawd my bodywork covers most of my frame) and I think the black would make it "blend in" more... but if you had a frame like Loek built, I'd say silver to make it really pop.
Don't know what your vision is for your bike but for my XV, I want to make the special bits (bodywork, rearsets, front end and wheels) stand out and the not-so-neat stuff (stock spine frame), stay in the background and almost be invisible to the eye when the bike is completed.
Just my tuppence.
Enjoying your build.

Well there were some local voters as well and they all picked silver. So this bike is getting the silver. I know these frames are not the best looking and not worth highlighting but that's more the stock frame which I have departed from.

:) Oh thats great that you make it silver, I am still not sure if black or silver  Let´s see how yours look like 8)

Ya we will see! They got a late start on it because there was some confusion.
