Honda CB250 performance parts?

Hi all

I'm looking into purchasing a 1992 CB250 for a long term project and daily ride.

The idea is to Street Tracker the thing, but right now I'm just curious as to what I can get to improve performance.

Primarily, what kind of carb can I get to suit this motor? I found a Japanese website that sells bigger carbs for 180USD and up, but I was just wondering if there was something specific you guys get to make the simple 250 sing before you start boring and porting and all that internal work.

I'll get the exhaust done locally by pro's but I'd like to do the carb replacement myself. Apparently it has a 26mm Keihin carb as standard, should I just look into a 30mm Keihin or is there something else?

Cheers

this is what I've found via google, not sure if they fit the 92 model though.

The top end from a 360 will basically bolt right on. That's a pretty decent performance upgrade.

Also, just changing your carbs isn't likely to increase performance without other stuff going on as well.

The one and only time bolting cb360 parts on a bike is a performance upgrade. ;)

92? When did they stop making the 360 and replace it with the Hawk 250/400/450 range? Or is a Honda Rebel/nighthawk type bike and if so are there any parts in common with a larger motor.

Doh. I totally didn't even catch the year listed. Nevermind.

According to the Wiki the Cb250 Nighthawk was released between 1982-2008, and because not much has changed the parts are readily available because they all use the same gear.

I was thinking Carb and Exhaust just to get it to breath a bit better (its what is needed to get the Posties to run better), which I figure is fairly standard initial performance upgrades before pulling down and rebuilding.

Do upgraded cdi's help much? I just want bolt on bits to start with, the engine will be stripped for internals when I do the full conversion to street tracker in a few months/years.

Basically I'm tossing up between a 92 cb250, a 2008 yamaha scorpio and a 1972 XS250. All three have good names, the Scorpio being more modern would be better for maintenance in the short term, the XS would probably require more maintenance and possibly get hard to find parts. Test riding the cb tomorrow, if it stands up performance wise to the scorpio I'll probably nab that. Being around for longer I would think that there are more available mods and easier information to find on them. The Scorpio's are mainly done by Indonesians and its hard to find english translations that make any sense.

Cheers
