Picked up a 72 cb350 about a month ago. I have been reading but not posting much. I got the 2 rolling chassis 1 titled. and 3 engines for 400 bucks. There was a box o random parts too. ALot of good stuff.
In the last pic i had stripped and sanded the one tank i have. I had a really awful mishap when attempting to get the bike to run before tearing it down. Lit the bike on fire. I posted all about it in another thread any how here is the results.
so scratch that tank. And i decided to just tear it down at that point. My wife is really pissed at this point. Below are the painted bits black with appliance paint. decided to paint the front fork shocks black. I would also like to remove the rear shock covers and paint those shocks but i cant figure out how to tear apart the rear shock.

I polished some of the shiny parts . I know i could spend a year getting these perfect. But that is truly not the look i am going for. I Like a vintage bike to look vintage not perfecct and new. Clean and old. Plus im lazy.I did some tune up stuff on the engine. It has good compression 160 and 150 , I replaced the points, I adjusted the valves. I drained the oil and pulled the engine. I degreased cleaned and masked off the engine. I need to get some new gaskets since removing the case covers i split one and also split the head gasket. I wonder if i need all new ones or if i can make some from gasket paper??? or if i can just roll with the split ones. they aren't really too bad but i think i'll just get some new ones. I primed the engine. I am going to paint the engine black and leave the side covers, and head shiny....
so that's where i am, NExt up is to scratch up the other tank. and start to reassemble. I am a little worried about putting that steering bearing system back in place. i have plenty of balls.......pause for laugh...... but have seen alot of folks replace them. I don't mind keeping the original system . But it's daunting. anybody done it with some words of wisdom. Next time i"ll post larger pics still getting the hang of this.
