I was disassembling my forks and, with one fork the lock nut (under the top fork bolt) that secures the spring on the damper rod, took some ingenuity and a lot of heat to get off. The other one went way wrong.

It appears that in trying to loosen it, it took out all the threads with it. It now spins but doesn't make any progression, forwards or backwards.

I've bought another set of forks from ebay but so I don't mess those up, what's the easiest way to get that lock nut off?
 
Is the answer just that obvious or does nobody really know?
