honda cl 360, drill stock mufflers to make it louder?

lipuid

Been Around the Block
I have uppipes and would like to keep the stock muffler look but want to make it louder. I have considered welding aftermarket mufflers on but I want to see what this community thinks.

If I can't drill out the stock cl muffs, any cafe muffler reccomendations?

It would not sound to good. It would sound like a leak. You are better off taking the end of the muffler off and either taking the packing completely out(loudest and most free flow) but you'll probably have to rejet because of the lack of back pressure. OR you could reduce the packing /replace it with newer stainless steel wool.

there is no packing,not a take-apartable muff
my only and best suggestion is leave it stock and ride without a helmet it will sound louder

WHAT

It's it fairly easy to take the stock baffle out and modify it? Or even possible?

I want it louder because I've been riding it for a while and want change.

I can't speak for this community, but if your bike runs well the way it is and you're not trying to get more performance out of it (with all the changes and tinkering that entails, and understanding that drilling holes into your muffler isn't going to do anything to boost performance), I'd leave the damn thing alone. From your initial question and answer to my question alone, I'm guessing you don't have a lot of experience in modifying for performance. Seriously, leave the damn thing alone, especially if your exhaust is in good shape.

I don't want to drill holes in the muff, but can I drill out the baffle or remove it somehow to make it louder?

Shit, you seem intent on making your bike "louder" because you want a "change" that has nothing to do with performance. Go buy an angle grinder. Chop away. It will definitely get "louder." I think your unstated goal of having more people look at you when you ride will come true too, and you may certainly impress several of them who don't know much about bikes. Good luck, and learning wheelies will help too.

File this under leading a horse to water, once again.

The if you remove or "open up" the baffle it's probably going to require a rejet of your carbs or you're going to lose you torque in the bottom end. It's your bike man, do as you want but like we're all saying, it could mess up how it runs. And if it's running great, why mess with it.

Making it louder will reduce performance unless you tune to match; noise for the sake of noise is something most here will make fun of you for, as it's attention seeking rather than performance modification.

It's essentially like throwing a straight pipe on a stock Civic. Congrats, you're now louder, but you're not going any faster, so why is that tiny little thing making more noise?

Well this got out of hand.

which style mufflers do you have?
On most of the CL exhaust you have to cut the muffler open to get at the baffles.

That being said you can cut the mufflers off and add some aftermarket mufflers, just rejet afterwards.

something like this.

There's nothing wrong with wanting your bike louder. And it doesn't mean you want more attention. It mean it sounds like a shitty whisper with the stock exhaust.
I don't know why people are being such pricks around here lately.

But for the record, "idiot GTFO" isnt going to help anything.

I will admit that I am poking fun because this is the member "lipuid" who has changed his name after one of the "gotta get to 100 posts!" games. Also because the question has been answered several times in the thread. ;)
