Honda CM 400C 'Creeping Death' - bobber

you have beautiful scenery, we have not quite the same in France

nice work on the back of your bike, it's clean, how thick is the metal plate that you use and how do you fix the rear fender?
on my bike I was not quite a flat seat, I fiberize directly to the frame for the base, put the foam and faux leather dress with

Just to clarify for the high temperature paint after painting it must be cooked, baked or with a heat gun, just the temperature of the engine operation is not enough
otherwise it is less resistant in time

I'm doing a bobber build on a 1981 CM400 Hondamatic. I am also doing a bare metal finish on the gas tank. What are you gonna coat it with for rust protection, some sort of clear coat, lacquer? Looking good by the way!

Thanks for the tip for the heat gun and the engine paint. The metal plate is about 1/4" thick. It stiffened up the rear of the frame quite nicely.

Thanks for the complement!
As of today the idea is to let the tank and fender rust a little bit to get the right patina look I am after then spray it with a clear coat to lock it in.

Finally got a big shipment of parts! :)

  • spark plug wires
    brake pads
    fork seals
    carb insulators
    all new cables
    throttle tube
    drag bars
    chain
    front tire
    fuel line
    fuel filter
    TurnTech Battery

I am just waiting on the simplest things before I can put fuel and oil back in the bike. Spark plugs and a oil filter. It's hard to beleive that I am getting close to firing this thing back up. I just hope hope that it will run. ??? ::) :-\

Got the new bars on from DCC. Throttle tube, new cables, new clutch perch and cable.

So it's been a little while since my last update. I have been able to get the bike almost road worthy. I took it for a short spin last night! Got the new controls set up, new chain, lights, battery box, switches and new front tire.

Questions/Issues:
Jets: Next steps are to get bigger jets in the carbs. Because of the altitude and the cut exhaust it's running way to lean. Does anyone know what size the stock jets are? What size should I go to? I think I may need to go up 4 sizes on my main jet?
Wiring: I freaking hate Honda wiring! I wired something wrong and the lights are getting to much volts/amps. The bulbs are way to bright. Has anyone else completely rewired their bike? I eliminated everything. I have 3 switches set up: run/stop, start and lights. Can anyone tell me what the Black wire coming from the Rectifier/regulator does?
Hope this makes sense!

The bike as it sits today.

My new headlight. I bought this thing from Harbor Freight for $9.95!! The aluminum mounting bracket I fabricated is a bit jankey but it will work for now.

New gold fuel line and filter. Kinda fun looking I think. 8)

Picked up this brake light at the local auto shop for $4! It was just a trailer light so I swapped the light and connection for a two filament light. I made a plate mount and added those spikes for fun.

The seat still needs some work, obviously.

Here is the battery box with my 3 switches hidden underneath the seat.

looking awesome man, nice stance
Thanks! It was a bit of a head scratcher figuring out the rear suspension but I am very happy with how it has turned out so far.

I have heard lots of people using boat trailer fenders for their rear fender. Most of the trailer fenders I have found are for 15" and smaller tires. Can anyone give me some more info on this mod? Where to buy? I found some on amazon but the shipping is super expensive, I want to see if there is another fender resource.
Thanks.

I like what you did with the toggle switches. I'm currently trying to figure out where to mount some of those on my bike so I can have my bars clean.

Thanks, thats what I was going for. :) So far it's working out well. Less wire and cleaner bars. Beware rewiring is a huge task. That's one part I did not enjoy!

So this weekend I had some time to play around with the theme "Creeping Death" ;D My california drivers licence number ends with the numbers 666 so I thought it would be fitting to use those numbers for this machine. I'm not like satanic or whatever I'm just down for it. Ya know, like chillin' in the basement, warm in the winter cool in the summer. Hahaha

I'm not sold that I'll actually use these number plates but it was a fun mini project. What do you guys think? Run em' or no?
