Honda Hawk CB400T in Kansas

Hi everybody. I'm from Topeka, KS and just got my first motorcyle. A 1980 Honda CB400T Hawk for $600. I don't know much about working on motorcyles, but I think I'm pretty teachable.

I haven't decided what all I want to do to my bike yet. I don't really want to go full cafe with it...yet. Maybe just bars and different exhaust at first. Maybe a fairing, I don't know. Actually, first and foremost I want to learn how to do some basic tuning and tweaking.

Anyways, I'll get on with the pics since that's the most important part right?

Nice and clean for 600. I have an 81 CM with an 82 450 motor. You can tare one of these bikes to the frame in minutes and work on them pretty easy. There is a clymers download link here someplace too. You can swap a lot of parts from the 78-86 CM/CB 400 -450's. Wheels, body, motor etc. The onyl real difference is your rear shocks are clevis to clevis and the other models are eye to clevis. Some models have air forks, and the forks are different lenghts on some. You will run into issues with trying to mount a cafe seat beacuse of the dip in the frame but some of us have pulled it off, some better than others. I have one now, it isn't the best one here but it is about middle road. I would say check out the Half Sack build and Byrdman's 400T, they would be the better of the cafe conversions of the hawk I have seen.

Welcome to the Ton

Cheers,

Ditto that, by far the easiest bike I've ever worked on. Had it down to the frame in no time, and everything is pretty basic and straightforward on them.

Nice find, looks to be in good shape. I like these bikes and hope to have another in the future. I sort of regret selling mine.

Great looking bike! I'm in Topeka also! I bought a '78 for $800 and it doesn't look near that nice... You got a good deal!
