Thanks, me too ;D
probably gonna go pick a xl350 motor for it soon so i can get a little more push, just ordered some stuff from roc city and dime city. gonna start welding up the rear end and go from there.

Good times, these XLs are showing up more everyday, its a great platform and easy to work on - Have fun!

ok so i'm starting to have fun, the hard part isn't the work, it's keeping our vision in mind. I tent to get discouraged a little easy, now that parts are showing up, things are getting clean and cut the hell off, things are coming together.

Nooooooooo no clip-ons! These bars look good man! Tracker it! Please! It would be a crime to convert a offroad to cafe. Tracker it! Tracker it!

i do love both, i've been going back and forth. Let's make a deal, i wont decide till i can actually ride both bars as opposed to me in my garage making engine noises in my goggles! ;D

Fit the flat bars and the left hand clip on as well.Flat trackers used to put their right hand on the throttle and their left holding the left hand fork leg down the straights to get out of the wind.It would be a talking point anyway.

ehm not sure bout that. would look akward i guess?

so here is a question, i want to put on some cb/cl forks (less rake, lower ride height) and cb/cl450 forks have the same tube diameter. So, since things aren't always that simple, any ideas on what i will run into? I have a cb front wheel that will work with the forks, im just worried about overall width ect. Any thoughts are greatly appreciated. The reason i ask, is on Jake Lyons XL285 he specifically said he had troubles and in his build it seemed that the problems are in the steerer tube, which i know are different in many ways (length, diameter) thanks guys.

Oh about the reach on the clip-ons, i'm 5'9 and the reach doesn't feel bad at all, not long/too far, but on the aspect of style, i understand those arguements.

thanks again

more pictures, stripped and sprayed the swing arm, put the motor in...

I think CB350 or CL/CB450 forks will be too short.I'd fit a CB350 drum and go no smaller than a 19" rim.The XL forks work fine on the street why change them.Short fork tubes and a 18" front wheel will cause instabilty over 55MPH.From memory,XL triple clamps are narrow compared to most others. With the setup I've mentioned you could still lower the tubes through the yokes an 1 1/2" and fit the clipons on the top and a headlight low to balance out the looks of a deulie trying to look road.

awesome, that's why i post here and only here. I will stick with the set up i have and go from there. thanks!

If you do a fork swap its easiest to do the whole front end. So look into wheel size, fork length, triple tree stem length. Easiest is to check from axel center to top of triple tree and compare numbers to see if its what ya want. I swapped the tubes on my 2001 Kawi Ex500d with some from an '86 XR500R. The upper stanchion (piece that holds the fork tube to the lower leg) from the ninja was to wide to fit in the tube but the xr500s was to long. Took some clever spacers to make me happy and then the ninjas fork tube had a bushing that helps knock the seal out xr500s didn't, aswell as the xr500 lower leg is plastic walled so it didn't have the lower bushing either. So I had to make a groove similar to the ninjas to make it work. Was a lot of work but I was happy with have more length without a lot of mone buying custom tubes + I got to keep the stock rim, meaning even less work.

Lookin good!

I like the front end. Doesn't look bad with the 21" wheel.

What headlight bucket are you using?

Thanks, i am really surprised with how its turning out. i'm gonna lace up an 18" wheel and see what i like better. I purchased the Roc City Spitfire fiberglass bucket, and got a discount for having a build forum on here.
