Hey guys,

I'm doing some researching for a well known establishment about setting up in the Orlando-Tampa area. My thoughts are the west end of Orlando so Tampa folks don't have to go all the way through Orlando to get to it and then those in Orlando and Daytona could still come given that the distance for them to the west end isn't really anything.

I need some feedback and thoughts on some areas that you might think would work well for a stop-in and eat, cafe style establishment.. I'll be heading over there in the coming weeks to scout some things personally and was hoping to get some local feedback.

Thanks!

Jason

But the west side of O has the Mouse, and who wants to be navigating Tourist Traffic on a bike?

You could try to get close to the convention center and snag the tourist dollars, but again, not necessarily a place locals would want to flock to.

I'm glad I'm not in your shoes, because that seems to me to be a really tough market to crack.

I'd love to see some more Cafe venues around, though, so best of luck in your search!

It seems to me that the Blue Ridge Parkway would be an awesome place for something like this...

Orlando would be central to Florida riders, but it is the biggest tourist trap around... Double edged sword. Would be good in proximity to Daytona for bike week. I go up for super cross or the 200 so would be cool to have a 'vintage' stop.

jason no to daytona all h.d. life style ,orlando it must be, overseas will want to see a wee bit of home... i-4 from daytona makes it easy, 50/441 or turnpike from west, east 528 from cocoa bch. 1-4 again from south ,also all have back roads. not enough cafe riders to support in orlando BUT if its open to ALL bikes there will be enough $ to keep it going all year...where in orlando ??? plenty of closed up car dealerships..but where ?? area near i-4 or I-drive is central , parking room a must, car clubs to hold events , out door seating, it will need to go down with all style of bikers..plenty in orlando no matter what the theme it is...p.s as bad as i would want this near me [daytona ] i know west orlando near air port /i-drive/i-4 is the only way it will make it and thats the bottom line we all need to think of...beside west orlando close to sugar loaf mt. ride.and ferndale loop.and if any one knows anything thats the best roads around there.. contact cafe-moto orlando or me if you need tour guide. or help we want this to work, i am retired and free time wise...e-mail rodriguezroy65@gmail.com we made your grand opening and met you at mods and rockers in cocoa..

436 Apopka to Altamonte Springs. North West of Orlando. Easy access from I4 or 429. Good local riding not fare... Close to Sugar Loaf Mt.

Jason, hit me up when you get in to town... question is though how big of a building you looking for? I will try to get some ideas for you but price per sq. ft will rise the closer you get to I-drive, there maybe a few spots that can still work closer to downtown orlando or even on the other side towards Daytona... Remember during bike week now days even Orlando gets busy, also may get the Tamp crowd if its closer to the kiss area, like around the Gaylord Palm resort... the closer to I-4 the better, so you can pull bikers. All really depends though on what those guys over at the ACE are going for... Tourist Trap or Rat trap! HA!

Historic district of Winter Garden. 429 toll road, go east on Plant street. You'll probably have to go there to really understand, but its a good fit and easy to get to from Tampa. You bypass the mouse using 429.

Great idea Jason but I will have to echo some of the comments previously made about the tourist trap aspect of it. That area of town is hated by most as it is heavy with traffic and tourists. Quite frankly, its a terrible place because of this and when you factor in the cost of property down there, it makes it a lose lose situation (IMO). I personally feel the west side of town would be better simply because a lot of the areas motorcycle enthusiasts all ready make the trek to ride the awesome roads west of Lake Apoka. Some of the best roads to ride on are located out near the sugarloaf and windemere areas so a project like this would be ideal out here. Not to mention it would be easy for out of towners to make a visit as this area is easily accessible by bigger roads. My friends and I live in the downtown area and have no issues taking the ride out there on the regular.

If thats not an option, I recommend you also look at the downtown and surrounding areas (Winter Park, Maitland, College Park). This area is centrally located and very easy to access via I-4. There are buildings in these neighborhoods that would fit the bill for a project like this as a lot of the buildings around there are older (no prefab strip malls, classic architecture). Last year a friend and I were looking to do something similar and found quite a few good spots during our search. Unfortunately we never followed through with it because of a lack of funds...

Good luck and feel free to hit me up if you have any questions / need help. I echo the sentiments of many of those that have posted and feel this is a great idea. I would love to see something like this in the area as it could give the struggling cafe scene here (and Florida in general) a much needed boost...

ez....

I agree, you guys ARE on point. The west end of Orlando is in my mind, the best spot. There is a huge scene in Tampa that will definitely make the drive on I4 so long as they do not have to go through the downtown mess to get somewhere. On the same hand, those in Orlando and Daytona are close enough to the west end that they would go through town to get to it.

What I need to do is setup a time to talk to you, Brendon and Tim to get some actual road info, map layouts, etc...all this is happening very fast so the sooner you guys can spare a half hour the better. I'm free this afternoon and this evening.

If everyone the three of you shoot me an email I can coordinate a call.

Thanks!

winter garden is good. I-4 to 429 to 535. 1 hour and 15 minutes from tampa. You can try winter garden pizzarea, moon cricket - has 100 plus beer selection, great little coffee shop too, can't remember the name.

there is also pagan oriely's irish pub.

Winter Garden also has a very cool B&B call the Edgewater Hotel. One of the 1st building with an elevator in FL. Rooms have all been restored to vintage condition, not too expensive and good people that run it. Sits in the center of the historic district and is the tallest building around. Has two restraunts, a deli, soda shop, etc. You'll definitly find something in the area to fit.

down town WINTER GARDEN wasn't there the old ford tractor dealer on plant st and a corner, of s lake view ave with grarge doors ,glass front parking on side/back .1930 brick style....is it still for rent/sale ...any one know ??? ? next to water park

I just got back from visiting the ACE about a month ago. I think their business model would work here as well. There are plenty of buildings around IDrive or the 192 tourist areas due to the bad economy. The Ace in London makes it because they have events almost every night so you need a good sized parking lot. The big thing is you have to have is great food thats how you'll get the return business. Atmosphere will only get you so far.

You're right Jackson, if the intent is to create a money making machine that rides on the Cafe fad. Maximize your traffic. I wouldn't go there, but I'm sure many hipsters will.

but remember how many times will you go to it fri nite ,sat ,sat nite, sun ..ride 30 miles one way after work .i don't think so... you have to work rest of week, so who will pay for that.... will you ride 3-4 times per week and how much will you spend each time... it's the out of towners who can do that , fill in the gaps, it takes $ to pay people, permits, lights... all the extras your cup of coffee, must pay for..has any one been to quaker stake and lube in st.pete. to see how they make it, it's all not bikes, its cars, and just any one who wants to get out and eat...so it must draw every one to pay the bills...all week long...so mon -thurs when locals are resting from working all week the visitors can fill in..

Exactly my point. For a business that's where you want to go, to the heavy tourist traffic ($$$). For a cool, authentic spot you want to be somewhere at the edge of a route where people can stop on a ride and grab a bite. Not the same money though.

open any cafe/store now is risky in these times, and makeing a part of the money that is out there to stay open is a MUST. so all areas of income must be figured in...remember this is a bussness not a good time hobby.[ like if some one won the lotto and just wanted to have some fun and a small place to hang, with other cafe / sport riders ] and if it JUST paid the bills alls cool . NO this must turn a profit ...why??? to franchise it out [ name ] of course L.A.,texas, any all year round rideing states with a bike amount to keep it open.. so this one MUST work for EVERYONE...so if its a little trendy, want a be's hang out, used by h.d. groups....so what..we will all have to give some to get a lot...FAR FAR better then stake and shake, or place that has bike nite one time a week, or stops for football season [ tilited kilt in lake mary ] bikes were ok in summer but now go away till we want your $ later ..NO THIS PLACE WILL WANT BIKERS ALL YEAR ROUND... A PLACE WHERE YOU ARE WELCOME ALL YEAR ROUND...BY BIKERS FOR BIKERS ....ALL KINDS..think of that ... where is there that in orlando area now ....ask anyone in tampa/st pete how great quaker stake and lube is to know if you want a ride any time there is a place waiting for you to stop and hang/eat /bullshit/meet up/end up... [google it to see them].. and this will be total bike happy... so lets get behind this..or is cafe riders going to be like h.d. riders . and their we [h.d.] are the greatest things in the world....we must get above that to get it started and work...
