How big it too big for a TON?

newguyj

Don't just TRY...DO!
I was talking to a close friend about my latest desire to do a ol' school CL360 Cafe bike.
Our convo went something like this
ME: Yo check out these pix, I am planning another ol'school bike (showing pix of CL360)
Bjon: Negro, yo ass is too big for a lil scooter like that
ME: Man I ain't trying to go fast just get a lil wind in my face and have fun
Bjon: You gonna look like a circus bear riding a tri cycle...LOL
ME: You're and A$$, I have other bikes for going fast, I just want something cool to pop around on.
Bjon: Didn't you have a bunch of stuff from your CB's (I had CB750 and two 900F's sold when I broke hand few years ago) You just love old S#!t, like your Sanford and Son truck.
ME: Yeah reflects my style and rugged good looks, plus it all stand the test of time.
Bjon: Maybe but yo a$$ is still to big.
ME: Maybe but I'm gonna be slow n sexy...

So my question to DTT is how big is too big for a ton?
I see a lot of you feather and light weight guys on TONS, why can't big guys have ton fun too....

Thanks

there's a tall riders unite thread! they call themselves the "magilla gorilla crew" ;D

Your post reminded me of something I was wondering about last year. What's the deal with brothas and 'busas? ??? :)
And Cafe's come in all shapes and sizes (thank god or I wouldn't fit)
Ton is slang for doing a 100mph, so whatever gets you there, gets you there. ;)

My buddy is a 6'3", 275lb, ex semi-pro hockey player (read BIG FUCKIN GUY...) and hes building an xs500. Fuck it man, as long as your having fun. I plan on building a 50cc racer here soon. Im 18olbs... You do the math! ha ha ha

First off I am 6' and 165, not a big guy but here's something to think about.
I have been working on two bikes a GL1100 that I have on a crash diet... stripped her all the way down and built it back up over the winter, been a roller under wraps for a while till it's engine is built.
2nd is a lil CB350F that I recently got as a rider, but it's also getting Cafe'ed out in small steps.
Yesterday I uncovered the old GL and straddled her to walk it to the other end of the garage.
DAMN this thing is BIG, it is 8' long and WIDE... serious...felt HUGE! Brought a big smile to my face. I guess I forgot just how big it is, or maybe I just got used how little the CB really is. But, I love them both.
My point is you can cafe any size older bike, you'd never know to stand back and look at it until you parked side by side a 350 / 360.
Since you had a 750 and 900F's you know how they felt. If you want a smaller bike go for it!!! They are a blast, but a bigger bike might fit you better and you can still get the Cafe look your after... and hit the TON a lot easier.

I'm 6' 179lbs. I have an '02 Hayabusa and a '72 Yamaha 2stroke 2fitty.
I agree with you... I have a bike that goes fast, rides smooth, starts easy, etc... and then I have the 250.
The 250 has drum brakes front and rear, thin wall tubing frame, kickstart only, and has a top speed of roughly 80mph (for reference, the 'busa will do that in 1st gear). And I love every minute of it.

"It's more fun to drive a slow vehicle fast, than it is to drive a fast vehicle slow." ;) ;D

I'm 5' 11" 225lbs.
I'm going to be pretty pissed if my '360' ( ;D) won't do ton (may take a while to get there, no hills to run down in central Florida)
got a guy in class at present who is raving about Honda Rebel, lots of fun to ride flat out- about 80ish (usually doing 150+ on CBR600)

Flat surface sloped slightly downward with a tail wind you'll get there. ;D

Hi, I'm boingk. I'm 6'2"/200lb and I'm a small bike-aholic. :D

I built my RS125 stroker from a wreck and it wasn't the largest thing around. Thats it in my avatar with me on it haha. It'd do the ton for sure, but that was the limit of its speed unless I wanted to push it into the red zone...and I wasn't too keen on a rebuild so I kept it safe!

It was a hell of a fun little bike, and I imagine the 360 will be as well. If you sort it out well then you'll definitely be able to hit the ton. Hell, with a good exhaust and induction setup you could even push past it a bit.

Hope it goes well - boingk

Well I think the thing with brothers and busa's has to do with penis envy...lol they're
trying to make up for their short comings with horsepower.. ;) Then again everyone
want the biggest baddest bike in the hood.

I thought TON was more associated with older bikes that could barely go 100 mph
with that being their goal...LOL

Café racer
From Wikipedia, HERE

A café racer, originally pronounced "caff" (as in Kaff) racer, is a type of motorcycle as well as a type of motorcyclist. Both meanings have their roots in the 1960s British counterculture group the Rockers, or the Ton-up boys, although they were also common in Italy, Germany, and other European countries.

Rockers were a young and rebellious Rock and Roll counterculture that wanted a fast, personalized and distinctive bike to travel between transport cafés along the newly built arterial motorways in and around British towns and cities. The goal of many was to be able to reach 100 miles per hour (called simply "the ton") along such a route where the rider would leave from a cafe, race to a predetermined point and back to the cafe before a single song could play on the jukebox, called record-racing. They are remembered as being especially fond of Rockabilly music and their image is now embedded in today's rockabilly culture.

Hey now... not everyone who owns a 'busa is concerned with the size of their Johnson.
But then again, my 'busa has no stretch, no chrome, and no chicken strips. It's the Cracka Edition...
