How do you know which tanks fit?

Picked up a small bike to do a cafe-esque conversion on. It's a 1971 Honda CL70, just a fun little bike. The tank is pretty rough, about 10 dents/dings on it and one of the seams is pretty gnarly. Today I filled it with water before I went ahead with coating it, and sure enough it has some leaks. I figure it's easier to just replace at this point. Does anyone know what tanks may fit on it? Is there a trick to finding a good replacement tank? There are alot of cooler looking tanks out there and I'd hate to get one that isn't even close. Thanks for the help everyone

Ask the magic 8 ball.

Honestly you just need to take measurements and go from there. Sticking with the same maker should make things a little easier. A CL70 will be tough to find anything that will just mount right up. Youll have to do some fab work to get it right. Good luck! Oh, and get some pics of that bike up!

:D i like the magic 8 ball idea.....

anything can fit just depends on how much you wanna put into a tank to make it work.

photo looks like hell, but the bike is ok. got the carbs dipping, new ignition switch on the way. just converted it to flat bars. the chrome and exhaust are all good. seat pan is good, so that's going to be worked as soon as the little bitch turns over. wiring hell in there!

avoid fitting a different tank with a sledge hammer....it will leave more dents than you have already ::)

measure the tank tunnel and find a tank that is either the same size or larger.
