Just wondering how many of you guys own a scooter.
I have noticed that Mortikan has posted about his new vespa project. And then there's the whole Mods v Rockers thing.
I personally have owned 2. First one was a peugeot 100cc 2 stroke and my current one is an Aprilia sportcity 200cc ( bigger than my cafe ).
I use it to ride my 5 minutes to work every day and before the kid came along my wife and I would take it everywhere. Its great for 2 up riding around the city, has plenty of storage space and does the speed limit no worries at all.
Lately though I have been torn as to what to do with it. You can still buy brand new vespa px200's here but they have stopped production so it would be cool to get one of the last ones. I know in a practical sense my scooter wins hands down, but it has no sole!!! Anyone have any thoughts on this?
here's a pic of it with my cafe frame in the front
I don't own one, but I have noticed a big increase in their numbers around where I live. I never used to see any, now there is not a day that goes by without seeing at least one. I'm sure the gas prices is part of the reason.

Yeah for sure. I noticed the same thing... Sure it doesn't hurt that yamaha isn't the ONLY place you can get a scooter in St. John's anymore... now that you can get an actual Vespa at Ballistic (instead of the 3 Vino's and the one vintage vespa that were around before).
well the lack of soul thing was part of the reason for the purchase of 80 vespa last year for that body style before they went to the t5 which was like 80's bikes square headlights and very blocky. I have to say the retro thing has taken off much quicker with the scooters than it ever wood with motorcycles. I see add's touting vespa like scooters all the time. For me it was a parking issue with inner city I don't know if you guys in the gta or surrounding areas have the same issue but no parking here in New Haven.
The other thing I am noticing is low cost to refurb this thing. I was looking last night for cables a single cable for my yammie is $15 not to expensive in the grand scheme but to replace all 5 cables on the vespa is $29. My new pirelli's were $25 each
I THINK SOUL IS WHAT YOU ADD TO IT LIKE YOUR CAFE IT WAS A NICE STOCK BIKE NOTHING SPECIAL THEY YOU GOT IT AND MADE IT YOURS
it's like most things it needs your touch to make it
I was waiting for these sort of comments!!! always a risk talking about scooters on a motorbike forum.
By the way that silver bike of yours looks fast ;D
It's not scooters some of us hate... it's the riders. Here in MB you do not need any training or special license to ride a scooter in traffic. People without MC experience seem to think the things are bicycles and have no respect for the rules of the road. Way too many experiences to list but I find the only decent riders out there have CC's between thier legs... not weed whackers shoved up their asses.
Here as well the disparity between the insurance for an experienced MC rider on a cheap vintage bike and a newbie scooter rider on a $$$ Vespa etc is ridiculas considering the MC rider went through training, probation, progressive license restrictions, and greater cost to just have the right to ride vs getting you basic car driver's license... logic out the window.
And now Tim has told me about these e-bikes on the streets in the GTA? Time for a seperate road system if they are going to keep this up.
OK... I'm done.... think I'll go hang some Vino's in trees... always cheers me up ;D
Here the licensing depends on what state you live in. Some you can ride up to a 50cc on your car license, others have a scooter license up to 125cc anything above that requires a full motorbike license. If you have a geared scooter (vespa px and such ) you need a motorbike license. The upside is most riders have had training and are tested which makes it safer for everyone.

I think the funny side to that is I've seen people riding scooters here in Toronto with full race leathers and helmets... like they'd be knee dragging a vespa at 20 kph
I started off on a Honda Elite 150, but its long gone now. Funny thing is two of my neighbor's have just got every member of the family a scooter. One of them has a V-10 work, a Hummer H-2, and a supercharged dodge viper... and what looks like a yamaha majestic. The other one has a Vespa with saddle bags, a wind shield, and wears full riding gear, and rides that thing everywhere. Ive always been told scooters are like fat chicks, their a ton of fun to ride around, but you never want your friends to catch you on top of one.
That is fucking great. I bought a 2001 Vino 50cc for my wife a year back. Great little scooter once I removed the restrictor from the exhaust header. I also have a 1971 Motobecane moped in bins in my basement. I got it off a colleague who was the original buyer back in the 70's. I promptly took it apart and haven't restored it yet.
I need therapy after watching that.....and yes..... I own a scooter.... (but I bought it for my wife, I swear)... Whats the saying? Its like fat girls... fun to ride till your friends catch you...
So if this is the case then a cafe must be like a supermodel, awesome to look at but fuckin' high maintenance and expensive to keep in good condition. ;D
I would not sell my sole to Satan, so scooter's are also way way way out of the question. You should watch the South Park episode about hybrids where smug will kill the world.

I've got a little blue one; it looks like a vespa but smaller. it's electric so it's great for when I don't want to make noise or get noticed. that's what the bike is for.
herro!
i have one (vespa gts250) and a moped (tomos a35 bullet.. with mod!) both fun to ride! tomos is so small and zippy and can park on the sidewalks with the pushbikes.
vespa : 7-9 dollar for gas tank fill up
tomos: 2...
