How much should pay?

Been Around the Block
I have the chance to buy a cb350 thats non running for a 1000 bucks. I saw it and everything there. Said it has a bad top end. He has two motors that are gonna come with it. How timing consuming is it to do a top end swap/rebuild?What should i pay?

1/cc is pretty optimistic when the guys asking 1000.
But 1000 with a known bad top end is ridiculous and I'm with 1sttimer I wouldn't go over 400 assuming it has a title and is in good shape and all there.

Talked him down to 800 but i feel thats too high. It does have a lot of parts that i need.here some pics. I still have the chance to back out. Is it hard to rebuild top end?

No it's not hard. Just read up, get a manual, and do it right.
It's probably a 5-10 hr job the first time going slow and carefully.
Chances are if it "needs a top end" something has gone wrong so your budget could be as simple as new rings or it could need a lot more work.

Looks like a nice bike, the price all depends on your local market.

I still say 800 is too high but if you're comfortable with it and you want it buy it, doesn't matter what we think haha.

Yeah thats what he said new rings and said to use the other engine for parts.

Might also be able to sell of some parts from the two other engines to help make up for it. Having some spare parts around is nice, but there are plenty of parts that you don't need three of.

I think that's WAY too much for a bike with a bad motor. Top end could mean that cam and followers are severely worn out. Pistons junk, cylinder walls need boring. Any number of things. I rebuilt mine and upgraded everything into a race motor so I don't know how much it costs to do on the cheap but resurface cam followers alone at Megacycle in California cost me $400. X5 cam was 400ish. Cylinder bore was like 200ish. Shit isn't cheap dude. Around here a bike like that would be more like $600.
