I Bought a Sidecar

Kelevra chillin' in the sidecar of my 73 CB350G
Hi All,

I just bought a sidecar so my dog can come riding with me. Here's the original ad:

1997 Velorex 562 sidecar for sale. The car is in very good condition and has less than 1000 miles on it. Universal mounting hardware and extra strut are included. The tire is like new, lights and brake work. I can email photos on request. The Sidecar has been SOLD. Thanks for your interest.

I still need to hook up the brakes and lights and play with the alignment a bit but it's on the bike now and I love it. In a test ride my dog (in his doggie leather jacket and googles) got more looks than a super model iin a bikini.

Pics pics gotta see snoopy ;D ;D

Think the 350 will be a little underpowered for a sidecar?

Either way.. Looks awesome!
Can't wait to see it on there.

This is the only shot I have so far of Kelevra in the sidecar. It's from a cell phone so it's very low resolution:

He's wearing his goggles in the shot and he does have a doggie biker jacket as well. I don't have pics of him in the jacket yet but here's one from the company that sells them:

I have also ordered a helmet, but it has not arrived yet. Here's a shot from the manufacturer:

He's super well behaved so I doubt he'd ever try to jump out; even if another dog, a juicy bone, or a tempting tennis ball caught his eye. Having said that I'll have him in a harness (under the biker jacket) and tethered to a leash. The leash tether is just a standard leash treaded through the holes in the brackets that hold the back of the seat:

Then with the seat in place the leash sticks through the other side:

He'd STILL be thrust forward under abrupt deceleration so I'll be running a second belt from the sidecar's rear luggage rack (the rack is in the photo below) to not allow forward movement:

Ideally I'd like to install a vertical strap and tether the harness to it, thus allowing only vertical travel. This way he'd be able to sit or lie down but could not travel forward. I think about it.

More pics as I get them.

Velorex says the sidecar is intended for bikes with 25hp and up. The CB350 is supposed to have 36hp so although when it comes to horsepower more is better, it works fine. I'm pretty sure those big heavy CJ750 (replicas of the BMW R71) only make 32hp.

Here's the sidecar (and me) on the bike:

OK, I'll be the rude one - what does something like that sell for? Might have to get me one for my BMW!

There's one on ebay...but it's a bit Night Rider-ish

It's not rude, I actualy meant to put the price on my original post. It cost $1000 US plus tax on $600 of that (I was gone for 48 hours so the first $400 was exempt. If I find the exact tax amount I'll post it.

Now having said that, the majority of sidecars I found were more like $1500 to $2000 so this one was kind of a deal.

Buying groceries has been a real pain in the ass since I put my bike on the road. This would make buying laundry detergent and bags of potatoes a LOT easier.

The value for customs "ide Car NES 8714.99.99.10" was $600 x 0.9883 exchange = $592.98
Then I paid 5% GST & 8% PST on the $592.98 or $29.65 + $47.44
Grand total customs charges was $77.09, of course I already paid the vendor $1000 US for the sidecar

There's another Velorex on eBay right now, exactly the same as mine except it's ten years newer and has additional rear lighting:
