I need a good stripper

It seems like some paint is really difficult to get off. I have tried sanding before and let the stripper do it's thing but am not having any luck. What did they use in the 70 to make this paint so tough and what are some good products you guys would recommend. ;D

I know this great girl... Oh wait... Not that kind of stripper you want..

Ha! You should change the title to paint stripper- there are way too many jokes in this......

Anyways, go to your local autozone or whatever and get Aircraft Stripper in the big can. They make an aerosol can of it too, but it doesn't work nearly as well.

See what I mean?

I have the aircraft stripper but it still doesn't work that well. I let it sit for hours and that stubborn paint didn't budge. I've got a mess of grease and paint on my final drive that I've sprayed 4 times and hardly anything comes off. It feels like I'm just wasting the stuff.

Well, it definitely shouldn't sit for more than 15 minutes. Wait too long and the stripper dries (leaving the dried paint to stick too!)

You say you sprayed it? Did you get the aerosol cans?

Well there's the problem. Get the big can (a little more $$$) but it's like night and day.

Yup. I pour out a little bit at a time into rattle can lids and just brush on what's needed.

This is correct.... The aerosol type is it's own worst enemy. Air neutralizes the stripper, so when it is atomized through the spray tip it is losing most of it's aggressiveness. Thats why even with the brush on stuff it's not a bad idea to cover in cling wrap. The less air the stripper comes in contact with the more effective it'll be.

Louie beat me to it. I covered my tank in Saran plastic wrap, and made quite a difference. First attempt, I just sprayed it on, and didn't get much along the lines of results. It won't attack the plastic wrap and keeps the stripper from drying out, to allow it to do it's job.

I know a stripper that can take the chrome off a trailer hitch.
I'll call her, and see how she fairs with paint.

Sorry... had to get that one out ;D
