Hey guys, Im new here to the forum and also new to bike building. I have a question that ive been pulling my hair out all day long over, and I was hoping some of you guys could help me out.

I just recently picked up a 73 cb350 this weekend that until today ran fine.

Today I started to tear off the gauges and headlight. And after disconnecting the headlight, neutral indicator and etc, and actually cutting the brown and black wire to the speedometer the bike will no longer start. I cant even get any spark.

Anybody have any suggestions on things I can try to get this thing to fire?

Thanks.

The only wires that go into the speedometer are the backlights...there's a good possibility that you blew a fuse.

tie the wires back together and check the fuses...hope that helps.

Thats why I was asking because I don't think it would try to start or the horn would work if fuse was blown. (But I may be wrong. ) You never know, somebody could have rewired something at once. Did you actually plug any wires back together afterwards?

Im going to try and plug everything back in tomorrow after work and when my battery is done charging.

I was wondering if it could possibly just be the kill switch? There is a B/W and a black wire just hanging there not connected to anything. And after looking at the wiring schematic it looks as if that is what comes off the kill switch. After looking at the schematic im not positive where these go, if they even go anywhere.

If it would be helpful for me to get pictures, I can definately do that.

I guess you could verify wires by testing for continuity of those two wires with kill switch in the two off positions. But honestly I don't think you need to have kill switch hooked up to run, just won't turn off. (would have to kill engine with key switch. I think thats right)
I would be more leaning towards your coils not getting power from a after key switch 12V power source. I guess I would try to verify that too. But I think that means you would have to pull tank. Anybody else want to verify with my assumption before he digs in to deep?

Pretty sure you'll have to short the kill switch in order for the bike to start. I just rewired mine, and I definitely had to do that while I had it disconnected.

The black and white wire is for the kill switch, it interrupts the power to the coils when in off position. So you won't even be able to kickstart it without continuity in the the black and white wire. Reconnect it according to your wiring diagram and you should be able to start the bike with the start button or kicker if everything else is working correctly.

Ya I tried to get rid of my kill switch once, (not knowing shit about wiring) and it didnt work after that. Hooked it back up and started right up lol...

At least you figured it out. I hooked up my starter solenoid wrong once. Every time I turned on the key, it would just start to trun over. Oops. Took me a few minutes to figure out what I did.
