I think I wanna buy a Thruxton.....

Hey,

Been tossing the idea around for the past few months or so about picking up a year old black Thruxton
for my everyday rider/modern cafe deal-e-o.. My idea just might become a reality if "the deal" goes thru
and I end up working back at my old V-Twin dealer, who is on the verge of becoming a Triumph dealer ;D

Anyone have a Thruxton that could tell me good/bad things about this bike (never rode one myself).
If I did get one it would be slammed to the ground - black wheels - wrapped pipes - etc..
Basically a modern/triumph version of my CB750 (but much much faster), something along the lines of
this one (minus the horrid red wheels, mine would be much lower/cooler/etc) --->

Anyone ?

It's a nice bike, but I don't think it's all the fast even compared to an old 750. It only has 69 BHP, lol. I like the speed triple much better.

As far as a modern classic it's one of the nicest.

The Ducati Sport Classics still look too modern with the frame.

The 'new' Norton Company's proposed bike just looks wrong.

If you want to be different.. try a Royal Enfield Clubman Kit!!

Fuck the enfield conversion kits!

Just look at the bhp and the compression ratio on those bikes. they're horrible. complete dogs.

The norton restart effort has gone tits up. That bike is not going to happen anytime soon. I disagree however, I think it would be an unbelievable bike if it came into production.

The thruxton is a sexy bike with many possibilities, just a lot of money to start with before customizing.

Regards

J

The Ducati is running 92hp, 67lbft @ 10:1... that's a dog?

I'll give you the Enfield lacks performance... but let's face it... we're all about sqeeuzing every last drop out of old engines and suspension. What could be more ambitious than taking an Enfield, even a brand new one, stripping it down, and then running it until you heard valves whizzing by your ears ;D

I bought my BMW too soon :( This is on Kijiji in Toronto for $3900. Not sure about the model, but it's a nice lookin' bike.

Thanks for all the replies guys and keep them coming...
1. Enifields are junk ! They make NO power what so ever, motors are
a crap design built in some sweatshop in India, etc...
2. I am all about a old bob'ed out Triumph, but this next purchase is gonna be more of a
daily rider/commuter bike than anything (thus me wanting a more modern bike). I think a Thruxton
all cafe'd out and slammed to the ground could be a wicked little scoot that I wouldnt be embarrased
to ride day in/day out...
3. A speed triple is also a idea (like the madmax/industrial look of those allot)

These new triumphs do nothing for me. I know you want a daily (reliable) rider but the old just look so much better!

This bike is CRAZZY SIC!!..
DAMN!!.. I love this one..

But I know what you mean.. for a long-distance reliable, 0 maintenance bike, I was even thinking once of an 06 VFR...totally non-retro..
But I changed my mind...

I hear ya.
I am totally down for building a hardtail'ed jockey shift oldschool Triumph eventually, but not for my dialy rider.

Have you seen these bikes?:

Particularily:

Yeah, the Bratsytle bikes are killer and very well done/thoughout..
I tried to go that route with my CB750 but it just wasnt working (need a twin motor for that style).

Those Brat-style bikes are sweet. PT I dig that Speed Triple a lot, but I think a BMW is calling name for my daily driver. I love Ducati's also, but I can't decide which one I like the best. I would love to see what you would do to an old Thruxton. So I'm no help here.

For a daily rider, I wouldn't go for any of the bikes mentioned. I'd prolly get CBR600 F4i. Although it's a plastic bike, it is one of the best all around bikes ever made. You can do track days, ride it to work, and even tour on it. I'd get really bored with the Thruxton's power in no time.

I tried to ride with some people on modern 600's before and had to beat the hell out of my bike (lots of 8000 + RPM) just to keep up while they weren't even trying, lol. I want to eventually get a fast bike to do more riding.

Like I said I have never rode a Thruxton, so I am not sure if I could deal with a bike making that little power.
Pretty much ALL of the Ton-Up Chicago guys own one, so I guess they cant be all that bad. Once spring really hits I
am gonna take a saturday and make it "test ride" day, and go ride a whole bunch of bikes and try to narrow my decision down..

If I do end up with a thruxton it will be bought in black, and the MINUTE I get it home I am gonna start ripping into it.
Things like the rear fender, front turn signals (small ones in rear), stock exhaust, and anything else I can rip off is coming off.
My "vision" of a Thruxton is black - slammed to the ground - clip on's- and loud as hell..
If my old job hires me back on and gets the Triumph dealership, it just might be a reality... ;D

Is that a fact ?
That 2nd pic of Carpy and the thrux makes the bike look like crap (for some reason).
If someone came out with some "hardcore" rocker parts for these bikes they would be a rich man (or woman)..

These bikes are much larger in scale in comparison to the old cb750. They are much taller and detract from the cool low stance of the CB. But I’m sure they ride much smoother... the whole bike to me looks like a bunch of afterthoughts.

Like I said, he is looking into it and I wouldn’t expect anything any time too soon.

I don't know...

Except for the seat, fenders, fairing, frame bracing, engine mounts, exhaust, brake rotors, kick-stand, tail lights, front indicators.... it looks pretty good!
