clear title, starts and drives, tank and side covers are excellent. damn it sounds mean too.

first bike i ever bought that was only 15 minutes to go and get!

needs some cables sorted out and new tires (back rim in the future?) , a quick front end swat as these forks are LONG, but i got it for a song and have most everything i need for it.

YAHTZEE!

you bought yourself a very collectable bike there, have fun! btw, forks by frank can set you up with good front replacement tubes

Yep - looks like an earlier model with the proper rearsets and rear footpegs on the swingarm.

Shame somebody decided to throw long forks and a tweak bar on the front end. Did someone seriously have 'chopper' in mind when looking at that bike? 16" rear wheel on a CB400F? Man oh man.

Replacement seatcovers are easy to get as well as the little rivets that go around the perimeter of the stock seat, that is if you're planning a restoration.

Good one! The rear wheel is simple to swap for the correct size if you want to. My 400f sounds wicked with the muffler off the pipe, you might wanna take 5 minutes to check yours out without the muffer. The previous owner of mine also started giving it the chopper treatment with sissy bar, a gross seat, blood red metalflake painted rear fender, motor mounts, motor covers, headlight bucket, triple tree, etc... but I'm bringing it back.

The first factory bike with a 4 into 1 exhaust. The six speed transmission is nice too!

so i took it out on its maiden voyage last night after a few minor mods to get him road worthy.

battery fail on bike night in front of everyone.

the wife had to come out and jump start me so i could get him home.

lesson learned: replace old battery before you take a 34 year old motorcycle out for a good long spin.

this is how it sits now.

so far i have replaced the forks and front wheel/brake with a set-up off an old CL360 (giving me a drum front which i prefer)

pushed the forks up two inches through the trees

added two inch lowering shocks

put on a stock side and center stand

all new cables

universal perches

drag bars

universal quick throttle

removed blinkers and ridiculous headlight holder and added some cheap emgo ears

bobbed the rear fender

tucked a long skinny cat eye up under the seat (got it at the Walnecks swap meet and fits PERFECT!)

blacked the side covers

put some fresh rattle can yellow on the tank with black tank trim

got a stock air filter which makes ALL the difference in the world! (apparently i have heard this model is finnicky about its breathing?)

i also straight wired it to eliminate the run/stop switch, and added a toggle on the headlight that acts as my electric start.

i have blacked out another set of rims and am going to get tires next week

...i am also gonna pick up a new battery...

so far, so good. I'll be less than a grand into it in a week and thats how it'll stay all season. maybe this winter i'll get to some polishing, real paint and the motor.
