I took stock headers, made some torque cones, welded on a thicker pipe, then flared the end with a plumbers flare, from there i used V&H short shot stock baffels, took some more pipe stock and cut that up to make the heat shields

Almost there with my custom exhaust not as sexy as some of the setups on here but, i did build it from scratch;

Here are the custom collars to go into the engine, I made them on my little lathe

I made a custom 4-2-1 exhaust for my GS a few years ago. I used a mac 4-1 headpipe that had a smashed collector, collectors from an unknown rusty 4-2-1, some scrap pipe, and a supertrapp muffler.
I had several goals in mind at the time. They were to:
1. Create a clean looking system that didn't diminish power.
2. Have a distinctive, louder than stock, but not annoying sound
3. Keep ground clearance and cornering clearance
4. Maintain access to my oil drain

Since I know you all like pictures, here's what I came up with

Exhaust builder kit from Biltwell for HD's, 1.75" diameter pipes. Cut and welded numerous bends to fit, used MID-USA inserts at head to enhance velocity due to oversized head pipes, built a 2-1 collector, Kerker Ti can cut down. Not finished yet, still need to fab an end for the can, exhaust springs at collector, mount the can, paint and wrap pipes....I bought 50' of the 1" wrap from DEI and a pack of stainless ties.

I built this over the last 3 days of evenings. It started as an aftermarket chopper style 4-2-2 drag pipes with turnouts. I may still build a short can off to the side but as is it sounds good and keeps the back of the bike clean.
